USS Gibraltar RP: Episode 71: "Monochromatic Mayhem"

Captain McMillans Log:
Ship: USS Gibraltar
Location: Space
Colour: B&W

Now that the Gibraltar was back under the crew's control, everything seemed to be back to normal. The Gibraltar itself was on its way back to the nearest starbase to undergo a major checkup, and several officers, including Lt.Cmdr. Weatherwax and Lt.jg Johnson, went to relax on the holodeck, and enjoy themselves. It had been quite some time, after all.

But then, out of the blue, the ship suddenly didn't respond anymore. Captain McMillan and his crew did his best to find out just what was wrong, but the most they could find out, was that the ship was actually being controlled from the holodeck. It seemed the Kekken virus hadn't completely been annihilated. So now it was trying to destroy them. Again.

The crew realised that the only way to fix this situation, was to go to the holodeck, and cut the link between the holodeck's systems and the ship itself. As they entered holodeck 2, they found themselves in a black and white starship of some sorts... the ship used by Captain Proton in those holodeck adventures!~

Ensign th'Thane managed to use this ship's controls to at least stop the Gibraltar, but they weren't out of the woods just yet. The main controls were on holodeck 1, so they quickly went there... only to be faced against Weatherwax and Johnson, who seemed to be brainwashed into thinking they were servants of Doctor Chaotica!

They defended Chaotica's base with their lives, but ultimately the Gibraltar crew got the upper hand. Ensign Deianirrah found the necessary controls, and pretty soon, the link between the Gibraltar and the holodecks was broken. The crisis had finally ended...

Content is king

Its fair to say from messages which have come back from those who attended the GFC Bi-Annual ball what a great success it was. What was interesting about the ball was the idea was put into action that the concept very early on was not to follow the usual conventions of slapping a set down, wearing a dress uniform, watching a movie and listening to hours of speeches.

What the social event team wanted was to produce something which was more than an a glorified slap on the back but something which encourage participation by all. Which was one reason why specially made captain proton outfits were made so people had the choice of wearing something which went with the black and white theme.

Also given away content associated with the ball like the event shirts, outfits, robot av skins and eyes all added to the participation. Even a specially made flyable ship was created for the ball, just in this one project alone there probably was more content built than most groups produce in a six month period.

When the idea is more about creating for the members they are more likely to get more out of the event.

I've seen many times events where to be part of the theme has required people to go out and pay for content to wear if they wanted to truly feel part of it. This automatically creates a two tier system of those which have the money to spend and those who don't. Its not the way the events group planned this event, its suppose to be about group participation so every member of the group should be able to feel they're not being left out.

The legacy of the summer ball 2012 i think will be that proper content made for the group and to be used by the group will now happen more freely. One of the concepts being employed in the group is to allow divisions to totally manage the creation of all content on their own whether it is building, scripting, graphic, audio, video plus media in all its guises whilst choosing the people they are happy working as been shown in this ball to be the best system which creates the most amount of content.

8 shirt designs, 6 outfits and skin,1 full av,1 ship,1 fully working gun,1 ocular pair of eyes,6 wallpaper for pc screens, mobile devices including iphone, ipad, android phone tablets.

What this ball proved more than anything else is making for the group adds to the participation of members, those who want to create can in the easiest environment. We can pretty much leave the older restricted system behind of jumping round divisions to get stuff made which was slower, didn't always get what you wanted if at all. To a much leaner, choose those you know that can do it without any fuss.

Over the next few months there's lots of ideas for more content being produced for the group in the new more open creation system, as long as that system is allowed to thrive unabated the GFC members will reap the rewards of it.

USS Cymru: Quantum Crisisy

USS Cymru: Quantum Crisisy
Intrepid Class, NCC-74319-A

After receiving orders from Starfleet Command to head to DS9, the Cymru took on board a new engine upgrade. They were given the ability to use a new experimental Federation transwarp drive. However, it didn't come without issues.

Two hours later, the drive was installed and ready to go. Knowing that Starfleet had failed several years earlier - the Captain still followed orders and proceeded with the test. Ensign th'Thane headed for the edge of the Bajoran system so that the Cymru could be given clearance to begin their tests. DS9 would do their best to keep a track of them should anything go wrong.

Minutes after entering the transwarp tunnel, the drive began to malfunction. Red Alert was automatically activated and the ship began to violently shake. Johnson gave regular readouts of the shield status to the Captain but he had no idea what to do. While Skytower looked for a way to save the ship - Johnson, Weatherwax and Vehrous all worked together to force the drive to shutdown. They called it "a short circuit".

The plan was to superheat the warpcore and vent all the heat into Engineering where the transwarp coil was active. Proceeding with the idea, the Captain sat down and Johnson made a shipwide announcement saying that things were gonna get worse and possible hot around Deck 10-12.

The shields were failing and the crew began to sweat but Rich stood strong and saw the plan succeed without any problems. Looking round, the Bridge crew had minor injuries so Johnson ordered Vehrous to take care of the wounded before seeing to the Bridge crew.

With most of the Cymru's primary systems offline and the ship heavily damaged, Vehrous managed to extrapolate the Cymru's position to the outer most edge of the Beta Quadrant. At Warp 9.98, the ship would be back in Federation held space in a minimum of seven month.

As Vehrous saw to the wounded, Johnson and Weatherwax began repairs. Ensign th'Thane sat at the Helm - starstruck by the news and the Captain sat back, letting out a huge sigh of anticipation.

Summer Ball 2012 report

The GFC Bi-Annual Summer Ball 2012
The Adventures of Captain Proton! -

Well, it was nearing 2PM SLT and people started to gather outside of the Roddenbury Centre; the venue for the Bi-Annual Ball. They were greeted by a new addition to the Ball system where there were free items available to members at the doors, these freebies were:

A Thank You goes to all of the above!

Even the Admiral dressed-up for the Ball!

The time had come, everyone has arrived and taken their seats and the Admiral took to his Podium. He welcomed everyone to the Ball and wasted no time beginning the festivities. Sodak Xeltentat took to the stage shortly afterwards to explain the Ball Movie that was to be shown on the big screen!

The screen was lowered and the movie began, Which I must say was a huge success! I special Thank You to both Sodak Xeltentat and Sereana Westland for their work on the Movie! I personally hope there are many more additions to the thickening plot!

To watch the first half of the movie please Click here.
To watch the second half of the movie please Click here.

Now it was only the part that everyone was looking forward to, the awards and Promotions. I was going to write down on here the awards and promotions in full, however that would take up far too much room, and take far too much time.

Admiral Mechanique - the mind beam!

Now anyone who looks at this picture knowing that this was in fact the Admiral might be wondering what on earth was going on at the Ball. Well wonder no longer because this was the fantastic RolePlay that took place at the end of the awards.

The Ball was held within the Holodeck and we had all dressed up in traditional Proton uniforms, however someone had forgotten to remove the *real* Chaotica from the programme. Admiral Mechanique had come dressed as Chaotica which was bad news when the *real* Chaotica came storming into the Ball area followed by one of his trusted Henchman and a Robot.

Chaotica ordered the Robot and the Henchman to bring Admiral Mechanique towards the Brain manipulation device, however as the Admiral was placed upon the table Captain Proton and Constance Goodheart entered the room to stop the Evil Chaotica.

Chaotica ordered his Robot and his Henchman to apprehend the intruding programmes whilst he brain-washed the Admiral. Luckily Captain Proton was able to convince the GalaxyFleetCommand staff to help him save the Admiral. After a short confrontation between Chatoica's Minions and the Ball Attendees, Chaotica was forced to leave and the Admiral's brain was returned to normal. Good prevailed!!!

The Adventures of Captain Proton Summer Ball RolePlay Cast:

Narrator - Stones Petty

Doctor Chaotica Robobby McMillan
Captain Proton - Dave Fearguis
Constance Goodheart - Debbydo

It was a great RolePlay which I was lucky enough to be able to participate in. I'd like to thank any of the Ball Attendees who joined in during the finale.

All that was left to do was to celebrate in true GalaxyFleetCommand style with a great Fireworks display and then a party which lasted all through the afternoon.

So that's yet another Ball over, and another Six Months in GFC history! We've only got another six months to wait until the next one, I wonder what the theme will be?

A special final Thank You goes to both Admiral Cobramax Mechanique and Fleet Admiral Katrina Bixby! To Dave Fearguis for the incredible Ball themed room and to Social Events for yet another great Party!

A final Congratulations to everyone who received an award and/or Promotion at the Summer Ball!

Fresh from the holodeck .....

For those of you who have not seen the comms ..... there has been a holodeck malfunction in the GFC! The Adventures of Captain Proton program is currently active and cannot be shut down.  Everyone has been advised to play along and take part in the life of the characters, especially as the holo-emitters around the GFC  are bringing parts of the program out onto the Estate.  I myself have just come from the malfunctioning program and have brought and item you may find interesting.  I have brought you a copy of an Earth 'newspaper' with details of how the program is perceiving the GFC.

On the basis of what the newspaper says ... we need to proceed with caution!  The holodeck safeties are functioning, but anything could happen!

Captain Proton Refresher

With all this talk of Captain Proton as the theme for the GFC Bi-Annual ball we thought it would be a great idea to jog your memories. I'm assuming your all fans of Voyager, then you may remember a couple of episodes where Tom Paris and Harry Kim played a holodeck program reminiscent of the old  Flash Gordon 1950's sci-fi series called Captain Proton, of course this being star trek things don't go exactly to plan so to wet your appetite here's a video from Star Trek: Voyager, Enjoy.

One thing you'll notice when you see the set and costumes for the GFC ball is how much attention to detail has gone into creating  replicas of what's seen here in this video.

Portal like effects in Second life

Over the last few months Linden Labs the creators of  Secondlife® have been busy not just updating their systems but adding features which members have requested to them since the dawn of time. One such feature is the llTeleportAgent command which makes it easier to teleport avatars around the grid when items are clicked or touched. Before you'd have to click  a maps or use RLV forced action options, with the new functions people can be teleported more seamlessly around the sim.

Richardjrn Weatherwax and Snapper Desade in their first Research and Friends vlog (video blog) explains how these functions can be used in their own surreal inimitably style and how Portal types effects could be created in Secondlife.

DS19 RP - Finding A Cure For A deadly Virus

Deep Space 19 Station Log: Edward Auxifur & Sophie Jonhnson

The team, consisting of both Commanders of DS19: Commander Phantom and Commodore Desade, along with Senior Science Officer Auxifur and other members of DS19, constantly searched the lands, eventually coming across a winged beast, thought to be the legendary Pegasus.
After meeting a number of others, and gradually learning of the worlds background, the virus was created on Vulcan by a team of Suraeens  and the particular disease had been plaguing the land: Deeja Duru (Vulcan for Healing Trance).

The disease was not fully understood, however it was understood that it only effected vulcans, and resulted in a change in the DNA structure. The team returned to DS19, studying and analyzing a sample of DNA taken from a vulcan resident.

Few days passed, and it was beginning to make sense that the disease was more serious than it was originally thought to be. Doctor Scorpio - a vulcan doctor holding secrets to the disease from the land of Tow-Kath had also been put into a state of coma, and had gone missing over the past few days.

It was thus decided that a team had to be assembled to focus purely on the Deeja Duru virus. Lead by Commander Edward Auxifur, the team was presented a science vessel (U.S.S Gamese) to constantly monitor the planet whilst maintaining orbit.

More days passed, and the members of DS19 faced immediate shock as Doctor Scorpio appeared in DS19 along with another federation team who had retrieved her.

Whilst on Tow-Kath, Captain Auxifur was informed by a dragon-like being that the 'Golden waters' were the cure for the Deeja Duru virus... he had already retrieved a sample, and therefore, after a while of panic and intensity, gave the waters to the unconcious Dr. Scorpio, thus awakening her from her coma state.

Dr.Scorpio informed Auxifur that the golden waters were not the complete cure, and another type of water, the 'Azure waters' back on Tow-Kath supposedly only completed the cure for Vulcans.

It was then found that the disease had unknowingly spread across various quadrants, effecting thousands, even millions who have no idea that they have the disease.

The cure is still unknown - and both DS19 and the world of Tow-Kath must find it, and save millions.

NB: We would like to thank the group from Tow-kath for participating and their kind message after the RP. More info about this RP and their group in later articles.

Runaway Runabout

Commodore RoBobby McMillan's log, stardate 2012-05-31

The Library's doing quite well, this fine thursday SL morning. So I decided to take a break from my duties, and walk through the forest area surrounding the Library and the Medical Center here in Constellation. I could almost hear the birds whistle their songs, except there are none. Perhaps we should ask the Xenology department to take a look at that.

Anyway, as I walked through the forests, I discovered something odd, from a distance. A small detail that was barely visible, but that clearly didn't belong there. What could it be?

I decided, in the best of Starfleet traditions, to explore. The idea that something unknown could be here, so close to the Library, was thrilling to say the least. As I got closer, the strange. . . light, it seemed, got brighter. Not only that, but it was part of something larger. I still couldn't quite figure out what it was, though. The trees blocked out the object.

Only when I got much, much closer, did I see what it was. It was a runabout, which had clearly crashlanded here. There seemed to be multiple hullbreaches, since even inside the foliage continued. The excitement that had grabbed me before was quickly replaced with the realisation that not too long ago, there was a major crisis going on. Whoever piloted the runabout, was at least able to set it down next to the medical center. Hopefully whomever had been inside, had made it. There was no way to tell...

I couldn't help but notice how close to the Library this ship actually was. If the runabout pilot hadn't landed this craft where it did, it could have hit the Library, or worse, the medical center itself! The results could have been disastrous. Better not think about that...

As I entered the medical building though, I noticed something strange. Like a build-up of static electricity. And then I saw it: something I had never seen before. It had a pulsing core, with several arms, or tentacles, waving around. It was beautiful and frightening at the same time. But most of all. . . it shouldn't be here. I hadn't seen any reports of a strange entity being brought to the medical center, after all...

I decided the best cause of action, was to call for help. Pretty soon, several officers and enlisted personnel arrived, and my suspicions were confirmed. This entity was emitting some sort of energy field, unlike anything I've ever seen. And judging by the crash of Mr. Weatherwax's Gryphon, it had a destabilising effect on flying vehicles! That might explain the crashed runabout too!

We quickly went off to check the runabout's logs, and indeed... due to an energy overload, the runabout's own navigational systems had destabilised. Further investigation confirmed that it was this entity which caused the overload. But how to stop it? Thankfully, we managed to determine that a quarantine field would stop the energy emissions, without hurting the entity.

A quick modification to the quarantine field later, and the problem was solved. Still, there was the problem of this entity being a living being... so we'd need to address that issue soon. Right now though, Constellation's skies were clear again!

Isn't it amazing what you find when you go out for a walk in the forests?
