The Statue

Every day when I wake up in my house in Constellation, I take a step out to breathe in the fresh air... and there is always one thing I see. One thing which annoys me.

The statue...
It's that statue. That non-descriptive, could-be-male-could-be-female statue, just glaring at... well, at what, really? The horizon? The Phoenix which takes you to Phoenix station? And why does it have its back to Galaxy, anyway? That's just rude!

"What's it looking at?"

It could be because I didn't have my raktajino yet... but for some reason, I got quite upset about this statue today. It was like it was taunting me. Challenging me. As if it was saying 'I am stone and you are bone, so I am superior. Deal with it'. The nerve of that inanimate object!

While every other day I'd go back inside to get me a nice cup of tea - earl grey, hot - followed by a raktajino, today I chose to do something different: I chose to confront that statue. So I flew up to it. It might be ten times taller than I am, but that didn't stop me from telling it the truth, once and for all!

"You don't look so tough..."
At first I merely hovered in front of it, staring into its non-existent eyes. A face without eyes... that's just creepy, isn't it? Since the entire area was silent, and there wasn't a soul in sight, I figured I'd let it know what I thought of it. "You are nothing more than a pigeon's target practice," I told the statue, thankful that no-one was here to see me talking to a stone figure. "And who are you supposed to be, anyway? Cochrane? Then why don't you have your hand raised to the sky, like this?"

The second I raised my hand, I accidentally touched the statue. And then disaster struck: a loud rumbling could be heard, and before I knew it, the entire statue lay on the ground, shattered into a million pieces.

"Think anyone would notice?"

'Whoops', I thought to myself.

I had to do something to make this right... perhaps with the help of Engineering's industrial replicator, I could create another statue? But where would I get a template for it, so that the replicator would be able to create a large enough statue, that fast? Pretty soon many Starfleet personnel would start their day, and they'd certainly notice that the statue was no longer there...

Then I had an idea...

As I looked at the new statue, I couldn't help but smile. It was quite an improvement, if I did say so myself. Now... hopefully nobody would notice the difference...

The new statue... hope you like it!

Runaway Runabout

Commodore RoBobby McMillan's log, stardate 2012-05-31

The Library's doing quite well, this fine thursday SL morning. So I decided to take a break from my duties, and walk through the forest area surrounding the Library and the Medical Center here in Constellation. I could almost hear the birds whistle their songs, except there are none. Perhaps we should ask the Xenology department to take a look at that.

Anyway, as I walked through the forests, I discovered something odd, from a distance. A small detail that was barely visible, but that clearly didn't belong there. What could it be?

I decided, in the best of Starfleet traditions, to explore. The idea that something unknown could be here, so close to the Library, was thrilling to say the least. As I got closer, the strange. . . light, it seemed, got brighter. Not only that, but it was part of something larger. I still couldn't quite figure out what it was, though. The trees blocked out the object.

Only when I got much, much closer, did I see what it was. It was a runabout, which had clearly crashlanded here. There seemed to be multiple hullbreaches, since even inside the foliage continued. The excitement that had grabbed me before was quickly replaced with the realisation that not too long ago, there was a major crisis going on. Whoever piloted the runabout, was at least able to set it down next to the medical center. Hopefully whomever had been inside, had made it. There was no way to tell...

I couldn't help but notice how close to the Library this ship actually was. If the runabout pilot hadn't landed this craft where it did, it could have hit the Library, or worse, the medical center itself! The results could have been disastrous. Better not think about that...

As I entered the medical building though, I noticed something strange. Like a build-up of static electricity. And then I saw it: something I had never seen before. It had a pulsing core, with several arms, or tentacles, waving around. It was beautiful and frightening at the same time. But most of all. . . it shouldn't be here. I hadn't seen any reports of a strange entity being brought to the medical center, after all...

I decided the best cause of action, was to call for help. Pretty soon, several officers and enlisted personnel arrived, and my suspicions were confirmed. This entity was emitting some sort of energy field, unlike anything I've ever seen. And judging by the crash of Mr. Weatherwax's Gryphon, it had a destabilising effect on flying vehicles! That might explain the crashed runabout too!

We quickly went off to check the runabout's logs, and indeed... due to an energy overload, the runabout's own navigational systems had destabilised. Further investigation confirmed that it was this entity which caused the overload. But how to stop it? Thankfully, we managed to determine that a quarantine field would stop the energy emissions, without hurting the entity.

A quick modification to the quarantine field later, and the problem was solved. Still, there was the problem of this entity being a living being... so we'd need to address that issue soon. Right now though, Constellation's skies were clear again!

Isn't it amazing what you find when you go out for a walk in the forests?

Relaxing on Constellation lake

Where better to relax after a long days work in the GFC sitting  relaxing listening to the ripple of the waves and flow of the clam water.

I walk along  the path call into the library  pick up a good book and make my way down the cobble stoned path the  to constellation lake, which is situated behind the library and  the medical centre.

Go to me favourite spot on the sofa, feet up and start reading  my book. Listening to the  birds singing in the trees  and the quietness away from the  busy  headquarters and the galaxy market.

Looks up in the sky where flying over is one of the AAC's  pride and joy gryphon, gliding through the  fluffy clouds moving up so meet the stars heading for DS19.

Looks back and continues to read her book, slowly  drowsing as I fall asleep drops the book gently as I fall into a warm sleepy dream.

Monkeyman and Isobel's Wedding

Weeks of planning, more bridesmaids costume and hair changes than I care to remember and the day had arrived. The wedding of monkeyman and Isobel was upon us.

Last week Saturday a crowd of friends and members made their way to the sumptuous church which had been erected in the plaza at Constellation.

The guests sat quietly as the wedding party made their way down the aisle, bridesmaids, bestman groomsmen all walking two by two taking their prearranged places at the foot of the alter.

There was much discussion the Skype channel which was running along the precedings.

Finally it was my turn to walk down the alsle with Isobel as I had the honour of giving the bride away.
Fortunately for us  the walking animations worked perfectly for us and she made her way up the steps to hold hands with monkeyman and the vows could begin.

Thomas Aker  recited the specially written service, the bride and groom delivered their vows and in the blink of an eye their union had been joined in the eyes of their friends.

As the guests cheered the bridal party made their way out of the church and to the short walk across sims to Galaxy to attend the lavish reception being held at the Roddenberry Centre.

The were many chinked glasses and wine drinking animations before the speeches where delivered as Sodak, Debbydo and myself said a few words to the bride and groom before they sauntered off to cut the cake.

After attacking the cake with the sharpest knife they could find it was time for the customary first dance. Monkeyman lead Isobel to the specially rezzed dance floor at  the back of the hall as they poseballed their was through the first dance with everybody else jumping in and boogies with all manner of poorly animated dances, yes that chicken dance did make a appearance.

I think we can all agree it was a fantastic wedding and thanks to all the people who came to support them on their special day. 27 people, all members of the GFC came and witnessed them getting married which is a great achievement and shows how supportive the group is when good people have their day.

Special thanks must go to Thomas Acker for finding the wonderful church and taking the service, 6 of  9 (Yalene Resident) for getting everything sorted in the small space of time she had to do it it, Tails Cluny for decorations and Kaori for dresses and fashion tips.

To DS19 in a blimp

There are times when I think to myself... 'what if', followed by some crazy scenario. This usually happens when I'm bored, like earlier today. "What if," I thought to myself, "I rezzed this small blimp and went all the way to DS19?"

Of course, transporting there would be much easier, but where would the fun be in that? So, I stood onto my blimp, left the Sandbox, entered Sovereign, and went up... up... and up some more!

Up, up, and up some more!
I went so far that I passed the USS Paris. By that time the air had disappeared, so I quickly put on my Starfleet issue spacesuit. I went up some more, realising that this blimp might have been the strangest vehicle the Paris' sensors had picked up in ages. Well, except for the paper plane. And the personal helicopter. And... Never mind.

Strange vehicle? Nah...
Finally, I reached DS19's sensor range. The officers on duty had to be pretty astonished to see a single guy on a small blimp, next to this gigantic spacestation.

Small blimp, big station.
About to dock...
I was just about to dock, when I noticed something from the corner of my eyes. That is the thing with blimps: they don't have sensor arrays, so I had to move in closer to find out what this 'something' actually was. To my surprise, I passed into the Constellation sim. And then I saw it...

Then I saw it... this doesn't look right?
The insides of DS19, without any floors! I noticed the AAC's base, the promenade... even Quark's bar! It was an interesting sight, to be sure.

However, I wouldn't recommend going there. Not only do you fall through where the floors used to be... the service in the second Quark's is horrible. I didn't even get offered a drink! Not that it would have made any difference of course: if I'd take off my helmet to take a sip, I'd suffocate...Apparently, for a successful bar, you'd need an atmosphere.

Lousy bar!
Who'd have thought?

DS19 version 2!

Did you know... Constellation sim

Here were are again folks, the third Blog article in a series of four, covering the entire GFC estate. Today, Constellation. This time, it was a bit more difficult to find things that were off, wrong, funny or strange... because the sim had just had a complete overhaul. Nevertheless, I did manage to find a couple of things. For instance, did you know...

... that you can actually climb up the stairs to the turbolift in the middle of the sim, which goes to the GFC Conference Room?

stairs to the turbolift

... that the Duty Officers and GFC Security don't agree upon the alert status of the sim?

Black or green alert?

... that besides the lawn, there's other things in the rezzer that can be put in the middle of the sim? (Like this, which is apparently a swimming pool for Micro's!)

Swimming pool for Micros!

... that there's a non-functioning holodeck in the sky? (at least, I couldn't get it to work...)

"Computer, I asked for a relaxing beach, not a transporter!"

... that underneath the ground there's lots and lots and lots and lots of walkways, which nature is trying to retake!

Bolders find their way through the ground!

... that it's difficult to party in a club which first has to be rezzed?

"Of course we don't *need* a club to party, but it would be helpful..."

... that there's leftover firework jars spread out across the sim?

What if one of those went off when someone picked them up? Medical, stand by for burns!

... that the stargate rises up from the ground?

An ingenious system!

... that on board the Voyager set, the doors in Engineering *and* the jeffries tube doors open the wrong way?

A less than ingenious system...

... that some of the items being sold at the mall are... uhm... well, let's just say I can't really see this becoming the standard uniform for women in GFC...

Not that I mind if the women here wore that... hehehe...

... that GFC has freebies to give out? A nice clock, or galaxy PJ's! And set of GFC sports clothing, but that hasn't been set as 'for sale' or 'free to copy' yet.

Clock, sportswear, Galaxy PJ's

Well, there was more, but this is enough for now. Hope you enjoyed it... next time we'll have the last part of this series of articles, and we'll look at Sovereign then! Enjoy!

High on Grass

On visiting the Constellation market place Lt.jg Richardjrn Weatherwax and I noticed something different from the 4th of July opening. Its one of those things that slaps you in the face and say's "Oi, look at me", so we did. We stared at it in bemused wonder.....Drawn towards it like a magnet to a fridge

We stood in it and watched as our feet disappeared under its green pastures wondering if one of those stores had a lawnmower we could borrow.

In the centre of the market was a large green space, the kind of space governments are forced to place in the middle of urban cities to remind residents  that grass, flowers and trees still exist and weren't destroyed in a low budget sci-fi like catastrophe depicted during the time before tv period drama's.

As we both stood in the long grass we half expected a herd of wildebeest to come charging or a multitude of wildlife to come jump out at us....Well that's what i thought, Richard was still looking for the store that sold the lawnmowers.

Fortunately we didn't find anything untoward in the swaying mini meadow, no treasures, secret tunnels or divisions that had stopped functioning and had been overtaken by weeds....we found non of these things, so we left the mature lawn and placed our feet back on good old solid prim pavements.

In hindsight, I wonder if we laid down in the grass would anybody be able to see us....<pause>....Last one to constellation lawn is a tribble lover......<TP>

Independence Day, Grand Constellation Re-Opening Party!!!!!!!!!

Computer, begin log, 4th July 2011.

Today was Independence Day, a holiday celebrated by those who live in America. Due to the scheduled re-opening on Constellation sometime in July, the FADM thought it would be nice to make these two celebrations coincide. I was late back from DS19 so I had to leg it to constellation so that I wouldn't be late, of course once I arrived I made sure everyone knew of my blight.

We all gathered in constellation, behind the red tabe to wait for the Admiral to do his speech. He of course was late like any Admiral would be.

Sereana thought she would take the time to get in mood and show off her musical talent, if there was any! *winks* But anyway, we were still waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting.

Commodore Matova stood and conducted an impromptu speech and cut the ribbon, so that we would not need to stand there all night!

It was, of course a free-for-all, who could get to the dance floor first? I had my bet of Gokyu, but he fell behind and lost the race to our very own Phedre Aionfall!!!

The Party began. We had an amazing band "ZZ TOP" so we all decided to slap Gokyu's head so that we could all dance in synch, it worked wonders. We were dancing all night, we watched the sun set, then the sun come up again, and some say they saw it set AGAIN!

YAY! The admiral arrived during the festivities and joined in the fun. The SIM reached a whopping 50 persons at one stage with people coming and going I personally reckon we had around 100 attendees.
WELL DONE GFC!
Lets say a thank you to the Admirals who run and pay for this SIM, without them none of this would be possible. And also a thank you to TimoL McMillian who headed the re-build of constellation.
THANK YOU!!

Below are some of the many GFC personal who joined in the fun!

Thank you very much for reading,
Jimmy Vehrous
