Phoenix Station Baby Delivered

The GFC is no stranger to delivering infants, sometimes they are even humans, today was one of those days when the Phoenix Stations medical centre heard the pitta patta of little feet as a call came through over the chat channel that a mother to be was needing assistance.

GFC's medical staff were on hand to help successfully deliver the baby, mother and child are said to be doing well.

If you in need of a quick exam for your species, why not pop down to phoenix space stations medical centre.

Star Child

If your innocently travelling around Phoenix station (Prospero Station) and hear the wailing of babies crying it isn't some of the builder screaming about prim alignment but could be the new pediatric area in the station's medical centre. Small incubator like beds have been set up where babies can be looked after through variety of treatments, before long the place will look like a alien nursery with tiny Klingon shouting
"DaHjaj SuvwI''e' jIH." and baby Vulcans realizing how illogical bed sheets are.

Runaway Runabout

Commodore RoBobby McMillan's log, stardate 2012-05-31

The Library's doing quite well, this fine thursday SL morning. So I decided to take a break from my duties, and walk through the forest area surrounding the Library and the Medical Center here in Constellation. I could almost hear the birds whistle their songs, except there are none. Perhaps we should ask the Xenology department to take a look at that.

Anyway, as I walked through the forests, I discovered something odd, from a distance. A small detail that was barely visible, but that clearly didn't belong there. What could it be?

I decided, in the best of Starfleet traditions, to explore. The idea that something unknown could be here, so close to the Library, was thrilling to say the least. As I got closer, the strange. . . light, it seemed, got brighter. Not only that, but it was part of something larger. I still couldn't quite figure out what it was, though. The trees blocked out the object.

Only when I got much, much closer, did I see what it was. It was a runabout, which had clearly crashlanded here. There seemed to be multiple hullbreaches, since even inside the foliage continued. The excitement that had grabbed me before was quickly replaced with the realisation that not too long ago, there was a major crisis going on. Whoever piloted the runabout, was at least able to set it down next to the medical center. Hopefully whomever had been inside, had made it. There was no way to tell...

I couldn't help but notice how close to the Library this ship actually was. If the runabout pilot hadn't landed this craft where it did, it could have hit the Library, or worse, the medical center itself! The results could have been disastrous. Better not think about that...

As I entered the medical building though, I noticed something strange. Like a build-up of static electricity. And then I saw it: something I had never seen before. It had a pulsing core, with several arms, or tentacles, waving around. It was beautiful and frightening at the same time. But most of all. . . it shouldn't be here. I hadn't seen any reports of a strange entity being brought to the medical center, after all...

I decided the best cause of action, was to call for help. Pretty soon, several officers and enlisted personnel arrived, and my suspicions were confirmed. This entity was emitting some sort of energy field, unlike anything I've ever seen. And judging by the crash of Mr. Weatherwax's Gryphon, it had a destabilising effect on flying vehicles! That might explain the crashed runabout too!

We quickly went off to check the runabout's logs, and indeed... due to an energy overload, the runabout's own navigational systems had destabilised. Further investigation confirmed that it was this entity which caused the overload. But how to stop it? Thankfully, we managed to determine that a quarantine field would stop the energy emissions, without hurting the entity.

A quick modification to the quarantine field later, and the problem was solved. Still, there was the problem of this entity being a living being... so we'd need to address that issue soon. Right now though, Constellation's skies were clear again!

Isn't it amazing what you find when you go out for a walk in the forests?

Medical Transport Ship

Every good medical facility should have a transport triage ship for those times where red shirts are injured in the line of duty. Lovevamp Resident was putting a new medical set through its paces and some how I ended up as the victim...erm...patient while testing this new piece of equipment.

7 of 9 (Zannadu Resident) aided her in this inaugural medical exam, which I would have to say I was concerned about. She may have broken ties with the collective but I didn't really want to wake up with a bunch of second hand borg attachments hanging off my limbs.

As for the medical facility, it was roomy and boasted many stations for people to work at, a variety of beds, animated medical screens and buttons which go bleep when you press them, what self respecting set doesn't have one of those.

So watch out for this set in future RP's on a fleet battle zone near you soon.

Medical's New Assistant - Lovevamp Resident.

There's a new face tending for patients in the medical centre and if you've not met her she's  Lovevamp Resident. After a week of intensive impromptu training she was made an official medical assistant during last Saturdays general meeting and I'm sure we would all like to congratulate her on that.

Ordinarily students are trained by calling for them when a medical needs to be performed and having them observe another medical assistant or Dr performing it. After 3 of those observations they are allowed to preform the medical themselves under the gaze of a senior medical officer, again this would be about 3 further observations.

Lovevamp under observation
Though this is a good way to train we thought with lovevamp we'd speed the process up by instead of waiting for a new member to join and hoping she'd be online at the same time to give her the appropriate number of observations but as an impromptu medical using other GFC members we find potting around the sandbox and getting them to play patients as we go through the observations with her.

One of the advantages I feel with this is not only do we speed up the process of training officers in their divisions you can also spend more time talking to them about every stage of the process, giving more tips as you go along.

That's suppose to tickle
Though Lovevamp was made a medical officer in super quick time, she also was probably coached  more in this process than in the regular one. She is making a great and friendly member of the medical staff, so if you stub your toe on something in the sandbox and she's around, get her to help you hobble to the medical centre and I'm sure you'll be right as rain before you know it.

We're Having A Baby!!!

Dr Mexes Snowpaw examines our new patient.
When you get a subspace message from medical which reads "Anyone online that knows alot about babys I got a prego lady here that wants a baby exam?".

Being in medical, curious and know as much about babies as a Geek knows about popularity I thought I'd teleport myself down and see what was going on.

There I found Dr.Mexes Snowpaw doing a medical exam on an extremely pregnant patient, Malic Skytower was looking on in that "I may faint" swaying pose.

We discuss the case and decided to move her over to the scanner beds in the recruit medical room. There we were able to do a full scan of our mother to be. After scanning, prodding and poking we gave her the good news the baby was fine and there was no danger of the sprogs hitting the floor by just walking too fast.

Once again GFC medical staff shows their versatility and sent their patient home slightly less confused than they were before they arrived.

SICKCALL!

Greetings all

G-man here. Well last nights party on Risa's beach was a great success. And even though I was feeling a "bit" under the weather, I had a wondeful time. I did make it home in plenty of time to get some rest and showed up at my post first thing wednesday morning. However, a few of my fellow officers expressed some concern at my appearance.
Not feeling at all myself, I decided I had better report to morning sickcall.
I've rarely had much use for those in the medical profession. I think their mostly looking for ways to keep us pilots grounded. But I did feel pretty awful, and I knew that medical had moved into a new building that had all of the latest medical advances, so I ambled over to the new McCoy Troi Medical centered and reported to sickcall.

I was met at the front desk by "Doc" Angelis, who took one look at me and hustled me back into the medical center, where he told me to hop up onto a diagnostic bed, and thus began the "poking and prodding" that all medical professionals tend to do. I laid there quietly, listening to the mumbled jargon of the doctors and nurses who worked over me, only sometimes catching a few phrases that I thought I might have understood. Phrases like "dead tissue", "open cranium" "rigor mortis" I even thought once I heard them say that I had " no heartbeat" Very strange these medical people. But I laid there quietly, enduring their tests and diagnostic procedures, answering their questions when required, and truthfully, very impressed with their professionalism, and caring over the health of one lowly Ensign. At one point they even had me floating in a "vat" of some sort of liquid. Another time I was in something that even resembled a coffin, but  Doc  Angelis assured me I would be fine

Finally after what seemed to me to be forever, Doc Angelis looked down at me and said, "all done Ensign, you may return to full duty" I nearly flew out of my bed, and headed for the door, but not before I managed a heartfelt thank you to all of the members of the medical team that assisted in my recovery.
This is one Raccoon that won't take the services that the medical professionals here at GFC supply for granted any longer. I headed out the door back to my ship feeling my old self once more.
So for all of those who haven't had a chance to check out our wonderful new Medical Services building, stop on by and say hello to all the wonderful people there. If there's anytime a ensign can give a order, it will be that one *smiles*
Until next time

G-man

Here's a link to the rest of the pictures of my time in Medical. Enjoy!

Classic medical blog of old

Medical Blog Page
With the rebuild of Constellation and the moving of the medical centre to Aeon, being the intrepid reporters we are, I was handed the luxurious job of rumminging through the GFC skip for to see if I can find anything Timol had throwing away.

I found a few dis-guarded body parts from Da5id Weatherwax's borg implants which were still active who couldn't resist telling me their intentions of assimilating me, anyone around me and the entire universe once they find a way of getting out of this skip, which had so far eluded them.

I have to admit, its hard taking seriously threats from a borg elbow but threw it to one side under protest and search for something less threatening to report on.

Delving deeper in the skip I came a cross a document from 2008-9, it was medicals own blog reports spanning 35 doctors entries. I even found a report featuring my first medical meeting which was lot more fun than the report suggested, I expect Lt Jr Michiko Akina glazed over the introduction of two mad scientist bickering and throwing joke insults at each other.

Its a fascinating read, another example of the long history of the GFC and a fitting reminder of what happened in Constellation's medical centre before its gone forever.
