40,000 Pageviews and she wanted to write it on a notecard...

The conversation went a bit like this.....

Debbydo "Oi snapper".
Snapper "Yes, sweetness and light".
Debbydo "I have an idea"
Snapper "Should i get you an asprin?"
Debbydo "No, I'd like to do a newsletter about things that happen in the GFC, like on a notecard"
Snapper "Notecard, who's gonna hand that out, who's gonna read a notecard, infact who's gonna
read a newsletter, about what you do in the GFC????".

And that's how the blog started,. a simple idea about doing a newsletter. To be honest once we put it online we kinda thought a few stories maybe written every so often. But here we are 40,000 pageviews and 700+ stories later.

I Would like to thank all the writers who at some point contributed and wrote some great articles, plus all those who read it which make it worth while writing it.

And the members of the GFC for being the inspiration to the stories and of course Cobramax Mechanique and Katrina Bixby for who without them, we wouldn't have been writing this at all.

Special thanks to our readers in Russia  we don't know who you are, but we are glad you're reading, so nice to have so many from around the world "Мы рады вам понравится, не стесняйтесь, чтобы поздороваться в комментарии.".

If that translates wrong, google we'll be coming after you :P

Any ideas of things to write about or if you want to contribute just drop us a message.

Ten Thousand!

It's hard to believe isn't it?

I know Richard briefly mentioned this staggering achievement but I thought that I would also write a post about it!

I can remember when the team consisted of snapper Desade, Debbydo and me. It wasn't much back then but we still enjoyed ourselves trying to bring you the most up-to-date stories! And now look at us:

This, in my opinion, is one of the best example of a team effort available in GalaxyFleetCommand! We have come together from different parts of the world and created an amazing resource for our members. It was no small task when Debbydo set out on creating a newsletter .... look what it has become.

Did you know that the blog has only been in existence for 6 months? All of this have been achieved in 6 months! Incredible.

We have had RoBobby's Did you Know Posts which have been a massive hit!

There was Rich's progressive story which was a brilliant idea:

Snapper has been informing you about the RolePlays on offer in GFC:

Gokyu has still be updating you on upcoming AAC events:

Six of Nine has been telling you about the Book of Records:

There are so many different stories on offer for you on the Blog, so many memories. This Blog has been a huge success, one that many didn't believe would be so.

I am sure that someone else will comment on the huge pageview figures that we are achieving today so I won't keep you any longer.

Congratulation to all involved and Thank You!
Thank You to the reader, without you this isn't possible!

5000 already!

Remarkable. That's really the only word I can think of when seeing that we've had 5000 pageviews already in this short time. Jimmy's already written a great article about it, so I figured I'd just post the visual confirmation...

Yes, I just noticed this when I had a look... we were at 4999! When I came back, it was the magical 5000.

Now, of course I begin to wonder. After all, if this keeps up, we will have a big problem. One that might cause the end of the blog as we know it! Indeed: what if our pageviews continue to rise? What if, somewhere in the not all too distant future, we get double of what we have now? I only see room for four digits in this pageview counter! Can it handle a fifth? Or will the blog explode then?

Well... we'll just have to see, won't we! That's part of what this blog is all about. Fun, but also Research. Don't worry, we'll keep you updated!

The Run up to 5000 Views.

5000 PageViews!
The Run-Up

So, it's been what? about 3 months and we have already had "almost" 5000 Pageviews. I know that other members of the blogging team are going to be writing you stories about this massive achievement.

Is this how you remember the Blog?

How about this?

Or the new one?

When you turn off your computer it does not matter what you remember about the blog, or even the posts that have been written. What matters most is that you have shown an interest, you have read the posts and taken in the information kept there.

This is what I see when I log onto the Blog.

So, I get to see all this important information every time I click the link to Google Blogger. This always gives me great pleasure to be a part of a great team, a great project. 17 followers is a great achievement for everyone involved. 175 different stories, different writers (Mentioned again Later) and different viewpoints.

As you can see above there is the U.S.S Magellan Blog. This is just one of the things the Blog has inspired. RolePlays setting up Blogs so that everyone can keep up to date on the adventure! More are planned to be opened in the next few months.

I can remember taking this snapshot.

Now, why have we been able to get to this point?

I can tell you that the Blog started because Debbydo wanted to create a newsletter. Now, it was decided that it would be difficult to keep people interested in a Newsletter when you are limited to the publishing ability of SecondLife notecards, and therefore it would be better to take this outside of SecondLife.

What a great decision that was! A few months on and the Blogs publicity has sky-rocketed. Now I can tell you that GFC has tried to set up a Blog before, and has been unable to get enough publicity and enough support. Why is this Blog any different?

The following people are a MASSIVE influence on the number of PageViews.

     - Debbydo
     - snapper Desade
     - Robobby Mcmillan
     - Gokyu Ugajin
     - Phedre Aionfall
     - Kaori Juliesse
     - Richardjrn Weatherwax (Indirectly)
     - And of course: Jimmy Vehrous

These people above (Yes, Including me) have been influential in the growth of the Blog. They're great stories, great reports and great imagination have made the Blog an enjoyable and informative place to visit.

But of course we couldn't have done it without you guys! You the readers have been vital to our success, people from all over the world visit the Blog daily. Why do you guys keep coming back? Is is because we are so awesome that you can't stay away? Or is it something more than that?

I wanted to note the "Popular Posts" as they stand today.

Please Note: The Pageviews here do not accurately depict post views.
They only work if people actively click on the post directly.
Due to the fact that you can read the posts right from the front screen,
you do not have to directly click on them.

An Extra Congratulations to those mentioned above.

The above chart shows you the change over the last few months about the amount of people going onto the Blog.

     - MAY - 480 Pageviews
     - JUNE - 1871 Pageviews
     - JULY - 1939 Pageviews
     - AUGUST (to date) - 682 Pageviews

This just shows how much people enjoy the Blog. This is the progression from 0 Pageviews to almost having 5000, I will mention again how much of an achievement this is!

I thought I'd throw in the above information just for those of you - like me - like this sort of stuff. This just shows you how international GFC is and indeed how international the Blog is.

Personal Note from Jimmy Vehrous

On the run up to the day we reach 5000 Pageviews I have had the chance to think back to my personal journey here. I asked snapper Desade if I would be able to contribute to the - at the time, a rather small - blog. I was honoured to become the third member of the team.

Over the past few months we have gained even more writers and unfortunately lost some as well, however we remain vigilant and continue with the good work and produce what many have admitted to be an "awesome" Blog.

I would consider myself a "main" member of the Blog Team, and though some of the time my posts are not always very informative or serious, I have always gained a positive response.

I am honoured to still be able to write for you guys.

A Personal Thank You to all of those mentioned above and Thank you to you guys who read the posts here. A Congratulations for "almost" reaching 5000 Pageviews.

Finally a special Congratulations to Debbydo and snapper Desade. For her great idea and him brilliant work, together they make an awesome team!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

The Blog Over Time.

Debbydo For GFC News.

Well, I know that snapper usually writes the reports on the blog's achievement, but I thought that I would note down a few of my views.

I re-joined GFC just over a month ago, what a brilliant decision that was! I immediately met Debbydo and snapper and we instantly clicked, it was then that I asked to join the blog "crew".

Being the 4th member of the blog team I've seen it grow from it's foundations. It's brilliant to see that we are actually well on our way to getting 3000 views.

We have had so many posts since I joined the team. Here are just a few of my favourites. (I can't list too many teehee)

And yes, before you ask, I did just like one of my own there, I LOVED it!

We have had so many different posts on here, I am very happy to classed as part of this team:
- AAC Events
- Tactical Events
- Sandbox Crazies
- Debbydo's textview incidents
- Al Raqis (OPFOR)
- General GFC News

I thought that I would write this post just so that we can remember some of the amazing work that has gone into making this blog the best Out-Of-Viewer content GFC has to offer.

I would like to say thank you to everyone who has contributed, and everyone who has read the posts.

And thanks to me of course! *laughs*

Thanks again,
Jimmy Vehrous

2000 views can't be real

As we hit those lofty heights of 2000 pageviews I think its a good opportunity for us to place a deck chair in the sandbox, kick off those starfleet shoes and reflect on how this blogs has done over the last month.

It started as a bright idea one morning when Debbydo fell out of bed and banged her head against a wall. From then on she's been living under some delusions she started a blog about peoples lives in the GFC, a Star Trek sim in some virtual world somewhere.

Local doctors don't have the heart to tear her from her self imposed dream state and left her rocking in the corner of her spanking bran new white, padded, studio cell where for some reason you wont find furniture or shaped instruments of any kind.

To compound her delusion, she's invented contributing writers into her wild fantasies, a lab coated guy who's name resembles a turtle, a David Beckham look alike who from rumours can't decide if he's a jimmy or a bobby, a raccoon who enjoys flighter aircraft's and a girl who has dispensed with having an full name and now would prefer to be known by a single letter.

All preposterous the lot of it. The mere thought of a fledgling to dare come in and produce something that could be enjoyable, fun and informative. The division fuddy-duddies never heard the likes of it, they were use to standing in corners whispering to each other about the latest conspiracy theory and whether is could be stupider than the last one, which by the way was mind-blowingly idiotic.

The doctors sat with Miss Resident on many occasions trying to find a minuscule of sanity in her words.

But to them it didn't make sense, "flying Gryphons","Away missions","Eating alien food","Tactical events underground" who could possible believe such tales. Of course she lost total credibility  when she insisted there was a place called a library which actually had a librarian in it, it was all too much for her psychiatrist to take so he got up, left the padded room and fed the key to the two mutant dragons outside her door who also insisted they were her friends.

So if you hear some story about a Blog for some Star Trek group, don't believe a word of it as these things can't happen.....Can they?

1000 Page Views

There are many things you remember, like where you were when certain events happened in history or something memorable occurs around you. One of the proudest moments is when you hit a milestone, an achievement or a number that represents a feeling of achievement, adulation or relief.

Today we hit that milestone, we hit 1000 pageviews. Funnily enough though, when this blog was started those kinds of numbers weren't really on our minds.

Debbydo simply thought it would be nice to do a blog about her experience as a fledgling in the GFC, so we looked on the internet at how to make a blog. As time went on, we felt one voice wasn't enough, the more writers gave more experiences and more variety in stories. If there is anything I would want to see of this blog or any web based page would be it as a living page, where a diverse group of members telling their stories about what made them laugh, cry, what excited them, what frustrated them and what it feels like to spend time here at the GFC.

Also for the readers to be able to every day or so, dip in and check out stories from here, even when they are away from the sim they can still feel a connection with friends or get to see what they may have missed because of being away or not online at the time.

As the contributors increase so should the diversity. If you asked me what does hitting 1000 pageviews mean to me, I'd say it means that SL and the GFC are more than the sum of our experiences where we can live some of it through other members eyes in pictures and through their thoughts in words.

So, what will be the next milestone? Its easy to point at a number, but i think the true milestone has already happen, its the contributors who want to have a say, a platform to show others the experiences they've had today and for that not to be lost in memory but shared with other.
