We would all like to wish our Vice Fleet Admiral a very happy 10th SL birthday anniversary. We would like to thank him for all his work over the 10 years in making GFC what it is today, with our Fleet Admiral Katrina Bixby.
We wish him best wishes and look forward to working with him in the future.
1930's Chicago was the place to be on Sunday for Katrina's big birthday bash! Everyone dressed up in their best Zoot suits and flapper dresses and swung to the hep sounds of big bands and jazz greats.
Our good friends Imrhien and Tray Porthos choreographed an awesome live show and joined Merky and Debby on stage., while Angelis worked the turntable like a pro. A million thanks to them!
We had a wonderful turnout. The birthday girl herself, Katrina, spent the entire time belittling and humiliating her host, but it was her party and she could do what she wanted, but everyone had fun anyway. A million thanks to everyone that came to play!

We don't always get a chance to have a dual celebration but we had one when AI (Ai Kikuchiyo) celebrated her real life birthday (we couldn't get her to reveal her age though) and Vixen Penny (PenelopePeril Resident) celebrated her second year in Secondlife known as a RezDay.
Social Events threw a party for them and a hord of people visited the bar over the 7 hours the event ran for to dance, chat and wish the two popular members a happy birthday.
As you know from this blog the GFC likes as good party and will whip out a dance ball at the drop of a hat so when Sophie Johnson's (Hydregion Resident) real life birthday came round this week we threw a little shindig in the Phoenix Station bar and could only imagine how she was celebrating in real life and secondlife at the same time.
So we love Star Trek here but when it comes to laughs in space look no further then the classic radio show "The Hitchhikers Guide To the Galaxy", which was turned into a book, computer game, film and any other merchandise the corporations could bleed out of it, but hey, who's complaining.
The story was about Arthur Dent, an ordinary man who was rescued from the destruction of the earth from a race called the Vogon's by his friend who he didn't know was an alien called ford prefect from the planet Betelgeuse. The kind of thing you obviously miss when meeting people at the pub.
The Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy was in an electronic guide book to the known universe where you could request information about something and get a answer back in text, pictures and voice. Ford prefect was a contributor on that book and his entry for the earth was "Mostly Harmless", does this sound a bit like Wikipedia anyone?
Looking at it now, we literally already have this tech with mobile/cell phones, tablets and the internet and when it comes to searching for that kind of info, who better than Google.....what do you mean bing, seriously, you jest..... Shown here was a Sci-Fi vision which at the time seemed far far away, but appeared pretty much within 35 years.
To celebrate what would have been his 61st birthday (he died in 2001) google have dedicated today google search doodle to him, a much deserved accolade,
If you haven't read the books and there were five hitchhiker books written by him you should definitely go check them out.
Someone posted what seems to be the full hollywood movie on youtube, so check it out while its still up.
There are also radio recordings, original BBC Series and a Hollywood movie, which kinda miss the whole joke and strayed a little too far from the book, like down the street and around a corner wearing a disguise representation.

Anyone who's read the book would know that quotes from the series have become household terms. like "The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything" being 42, search for that one on a web engine as see what comes up :)
Also when every your going out, especially if its dangerous, know where your towel is.
Stick a babel fish in your ear to understand people who speak different languages, though swearing in English is pretty universal I find, certainly breaks the cultural barrier, though it does occasionally have the affect of you running for your life screaming, which is also universal and requires no translation.
And of course who can forget what was enscribe on the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, the words "Don't Panic". Because panic is so not built in our DNA, like wetting yourself at the sight of a lion chasing you.

Its hard to believe its been 5 years since a fresh face prim avatar called Richardjrn Weatherwax loaded up SL for the first time and gave the 3D virtual reality platform a whirl. In those five years he has become one of the groups most recognized and talented scripter. Its hard not to travel around the 4 sims and not find something which he has had a hand in the creation of.
To celebrate this feet of dedication and the fact that he had left SL toddler status Sophie Johnson arranged a secret party for him in the new Phoenix Station bar in Sovereign.
The crowds gathered the music pumped and members, guests and ponies strutted their funky stuff.
Congratulation Richardjrn Weatherwax and may you be here in another 5 years.
This week 18 years ago believe it or not saw the first episode of Star Trek: Voyager and to celebrate Social Events held an RP to remember that great series.
Mission Report
The USS Voyager after spending time in a Star Fleet museum was given permission to be equip with reduced crew and rendezvous with Savoy Station, but on the way they took a slight detour to a near by asteroid field to take some readings when they notice some strange anomalies and fluctuations appearing on their sensors.
Before they could give a reason for them a old Klingon ship decloaked, demanding the crew to vacate the region or suffer the consequences.
Captain Debbydo informed the Klingon vessel that this region of space is open territory due to the treaty which had been signed years ago. For some reason the Klingon's claimed to be unaware of such a treaty as if they have been lost in time.
The captain informed the Comms officer to send a message to StarFleet and the Klingon empire making them aware of the situation. Though they both sent ships to assist it was unlikely this standoff would last that long. The ship was put on high alert. Engineering was ask to send an undetected probe towards the Klingon ship using a holo-emitters disguised as a small asteroid.
The Klingon captain lost patients and started firing on the ship, the helm took evasive action, swinging the ship round, as the Klingon vessel got closer to the disguised probe its was detonated weakening their shields so that tactical could hit then with a volley of torpedoes.
With the Kingon ships warp capabilities disabled and key areas of their ship damaged voyager was able to leave the region safely and head back to earth no doubt straight into an investigation of want happened.
The next time we see a ship in a museum, maybe we should just admire it and not ask if we can take it out for just one more ride.

We can well and truly say Halloween is over, not only has the ghouls returned to their lair last week, but the scary monsters represented in the US presidential elections have finished their battle of word, policy and promises.
The GFC did have a Halloween celebration over the weekend, it was just a little later than the actual day because of technical glitches on the land stream, but some how we sneaked it in with my real life birthday in keeping with the macabre feel.
It was a lot of fun, though there was no hiding myself from the crowd, people could see through my skeleton outfit...Hahaha....See what I did there....Hahahaha...See through, Skeleton....seriously, if you don't get that your slower than political reform.
Its hard to believe that around a year ago a red haired Avatar entered the Aeon sandbox and ended up helping create afootball pitch. Well, that avatar Hydregion Resident (better know now as Sophie Johnson) has come a long way since then, boasting the rank of Lt.Jg and previously being a tactical assistant lead who has now transferred over to being the assistant lead at medical, not including her regular Rping and permanent activities in DS19 and has been integral to its resurgence.
To celebrate her rez day and say a little thank you Social Events and Richard Weatherwax help throw a little party for her in DS19's bar, plenty of people came in to wish her a happy rez day, dance and knock back the synthehol which was on offer.
I'm sure Sophie would like to thank all those who came along to say hi.
As warned earlier the Hulk made its way through the deserted rezzed town shouting "Hulk Smash" and wrecking everything that came in its path. His destination was the location of the Fadm's Party on Saturday.
A small group of mercenaries from Tactical Division were sent to intercept the green mammoth and take him down which was no mean task as trying to bring this humongous mountain to the ground was like throwing tooth picks at an elephant.
Kal Aie, Dustin Sunflower, BunE and BlueAgate, locked, loaded and strapped enough Arsenal to bring down a small country to take on the jolly green giant.
Erm....Ok, they attempted to take on the jolly green giant, the words "Hulk Smash" echoing down the streets and the constant images of mercenaries laying strewn across the ground wasn't an encouraging sight.
But they persevered, dug deep, strapped on a rocket launcher and eventually (I'm not going to say how long it took then) brought the grass coloured beast to his knees. With the Hulk defeated the party could go on unabated, our mercenaries hailed as heroes.
Attention all hands! The Hulk went out of control, invaded GFC and is threatening to destroy FADM Katrina Bixby's party scenario! We need all able soldiers to stop him, THIS FRIDAY, 6pm SLT. Meet us on Aeon sandbox for briefing! This is not a drill, repeat, this is not a drill! Everyone is welcome to this... no-win tactical exercise!

GFC members have always liked a good party and on 1st Sept there'll be another excuse for the fleet jiving in celebration of Fleet Admiral Katrina Bixby's SL birthday. looking as young as the first day she rezzed she's chosen a super hero theme for her party and Jens Johnson has been busy putting the final touches to the set where he's created a city like street area with pictures of heroes and villains adorning the pavement .

As it's a themed event guests are encouraged to detach those combadges and come dressed as the super hero of your own choosing. Who are you going to pick, superman, spiderman, other names with man in it or batgirl, catwoman, wonder woman or any other name which makes it clear your female.
Whoever you choose, slip into your lycra or PVC and come down to the Roddenberry Centre to join the festivities and wish the Fadm a happy birthday.
New poster site has gone up in the sandbox to help promote the event using a bigger size of poster on an automatic shape resizing system meaning the site reshapes itself to the size of the poster, Richardjrn Weatherwax was the creator of the poster technology while snapper Desade created the poster graphics which more reflect members and uses real SL content for the graphics.

The sound of tablets being dropped in a glass, head still thumping and why have I woken up with this traffic cone???
After a good old Rp with the Cymru Crew where we tackled a time traveler who had mysteriously materialized on the bridge of the ship, it was back to DS19 for some well earned R&R or so we thought. Even though the hangover from St.Patrick's Day Weekend was still playing the bongo in our heads, we were informed it was Sophie's (Hydregion Resident) birthday and there was only one thing that could be done other than giving her the bumps and dropping her into sovereigns lake. You know what that was, as in GFC tradition, PARTY LIKE ITS 2375!!!!!!!
We all crowed on the cramp quarks dance floor stage where the boogying was boggling, we strived to jive and thrilled to chill. Some people danced also, but we all had a great time and importantly, so did Sophie...
It was also Dave Fearguis's Bday to....but he didn't grease enough palms with lindens to get a party but we'll mention it anyway :)
GFC stuff are known for their love of impromptu disco and dance, they also can't help jumping into a photo when someone whips their SL camera out. After a quick parade around Aeon we all got together for a quick picture to help celebrate Aeon's 5th Anniversary.
Five years ago an ambitious star trek group in second life who already had one successful sim called galaxy embarked on furthering their adventure and boldly adding another sim to their groups arsenal. They called this sim Aeon and to celebrate its 5th birthday 3 days of fun and frolics has been organised.
To launch the event was the customary ribbon cutting. The event project lead JD Matova gave a short speech and cut the ribbon to announce the fifth anniversary open.
Earlier on in the day Fadm Bixby had an idea of a constructing a picture wall where members could simply place favorite photos of memorable events which had happened in Aeon. Richard Weatherwax hurriedly put it together and some of us dug deep into our inventory to pull out a few gems of the past, as the day progressed more pictures were added.
To help celebrate the anniversary in GFC custom style someone thought, why not throw an impromptu party, so they slapped a dance floor down in front of the picture wall, chucked in some lights, a dance ball and we cranked up the boogie.
Three days of Aeon's 5th anniversary had begun....
