5th Anniversary Event - Parades

During aeons 5th anniversary a selection of parades were planned. Just after the opening of the celebration we had a flag parade where we remembered  past members who had fallen with a walk around the fountains outside the medical centre followed by a small speech.

On Saturday fadm bixby walked us past the shuttle park, through the welcome centre, past the op complex culminating with us ending the parade in the sandbox.

Finally just after the historical general meeting in the sandbox we once again gathered outside the medical centre and  watched a flag raising as we stood next to the memorial in memory of members we will never see again.

We'd like to thank Social Events and Xenomusicolgy for the planning of some of those events.

General Meeting in the Sand?

Nothing is beyond Admiral Cobramax Mechanique!

The strangest sight! I swear that I saw a congregation of Galaxy Fleet crew members having a meeting in Aeon sandbox today. Was it just coincidence that this event coincided with the Aeon 5 Year anniversary celebrations or was this a deliberate attempt at creating a sentimental atmosphere.

Well, you heard it here first folks! Admiral Cobramax Mechanique did indeed have the General Meeting in the corner of Aeon Sandbox today! If you find it difficult to comprhend the meaning of this then allow me to explain. Being the meeting that brings the members of Galaxy Fleet Command together at a community event it only seems fitting that after 5 years it should take place at the exact location of the 'Party'.

Of course there have been many other 'differences' in Aeon these past few days including the MRU (Mobile Research Unit) that has been open to all smack bang in the centre of the Sandbox. Usually it's floating some 3000 ft in the air but for the weekend, research have grounded they're creation and have created an exhibition out of it.

The General Meeting was very much like the usual meeting with the exception of the snazzy Admiral's Desk and comfy seats. I was nearly about to suggest we all sit on the sand because it would have been much more civilised than the contraption we ended up perching ourselves on.

Well, nothing explains Galaxy Fleet Command better than this story eh?

Expect the Unexpected!

5th Anniversary Event - Aeon grand prix

As night fell for some and morning broke for others a strange organisation was afoot as vehicles were being tested and arrows laid down on aeon pathways in the dead of nigh, or morning, maybe evening depending on which part of the world you were from.

As the list of wacky funny transports were laid out you knew we were in for a fun ride. You may remembered the bathtubs timed trials for the GFC book of record arranged by 6 of 9 (Yalene Resident) who we all  know can throw an event in style. She has taken  the race once step further and now its not just a race but a race with a difference.

The race would last five laps of a specially marked out track and after every lap your required you swap vechles to another pre-selective one.

If that wasn't wacky enough the modes of  transport were equally bizarre from being pulled in a sled by a husky dog, pushing yourself along on a rubber ring or powering down the signed path on a motor bike.

A group of us lined up at the starting post with  5 laps of mayhem between us and glory, Yalene put us under starters orders and we were off. The 4 wheeler bike was our first vehicle, slightly...well more than slight, over sensitive one extra flick of the keyboard and you could be swimming with the fishes in the lake.

The dog sled was a lot more forgiving, almost sliding majestically rounds the tight corners of our makeshift Aeon track. Then it was time for race toob a yellow rubber rings normally used in water of paddling but will happily multi-tasks as a lands/sea vehicle, you get the picture, grown avatars flaring their arms around in a ribber dingy, there was much merriment in the stands of onlookers.

By this time most of the contestants were either swimming with the fishes or had wrapped their  vehicles around the nearest lamp post. Which left just me and 7 0f 9 (Zannadu Resident) contesting for the title of wacky racer of the GFC.

The second to last motor was the aptly named playboy motorcycle, the easiest to handle machine in the race, not as crazy as the rest but a good setup before we jumped into the final car....

Though the word car wouldn't be totally an accurate description, the bathtub, as its name suggests is a bathtube on wheels which steers like a cow with a ten ton weight attached to its tail. A this point in the race I was well ahead, but my bathtub driving skill were letting me down as I swayed from side to side, some how only able to direct my bathtube into objects like a magnet attracting metal.

As I bounce off  signs, street lamps or anything which was solid i could feel 7 of 9 breathing down my neck, soon we were side by side, wheel to wheel, rubber ducky to rubber ducky, I held my ground and watched as 7's bathtube careened into lake (she claims i nudged her into the lake, but i wouldn't do such a thing).

So I had a clear road a head of me, took the final turn at the ops center straight to the finishing line. As i turned round i could see 7 limping behind in her bathtub.

Yalene crowned me champion of the GFC, world, universe until her next event :)

And while we were at it 7 of 9 (Zannadu Resident) thought wouldn't it be fun to have a bumper car event, so she placed a raised platform up above the sandbox with a bumper car rezzer. We needed no excuse to jump in them trying to knock each other off the platform. Others joined in to the crash frenzy event with cars flying off the edge like lemming to a cliff.

I have the say both Yalene and Zannadu  laid on two fun library/research events for the anniversary, that put a smile on the faces of those who attended. Now, just one more time round the Aeon track without crashing into something.

Memorial Day.

Lest We Forget!

Memorial Day was created shortly after World War One (The Great War) to commemorate all those who died protecting our countries. A treaty was signed which became known as Armistice hence the name Armistice Day.

The poppy symbolizes this event and you have have seen many people around our SIMs showing their support by wearing the Poppy. During the War many MANY people were killed and it took years to clear the corpses, however in that time poppy's grew with rich red petals which late became the symbolism for the soldiers blood.

I believe a similar ceremony took place of Friday (11/11/11) but today again a 2minutes silence took place in Aeon Sandbox. Zeus26 Elman donned his very own veteran outfit to celebrate this tradition.

Lest We Forget by Owen Griffiths

What do we forget when we remember
What are the stories left untold
What do we think each November
As we march down that glory road
As we march down that gory road

One hundred million
Don’t come home from war
Another eight hundred million
Who lived to bear its scar
Who lived to bear its scar

Lest we forget
What they were dying for
Lest we forget
What they were killing for
Lest we forget
What the hell it was for

What do we forget when we remember…

Aeon's 5th Anniversary: Quick Group Photo

GFC stuff are known for their love of impromptu disco and dance, they also can't help jumping into a photo when someone whips their SL camera out. After a quick parade around Aeon we all got together for a quick picture to help celebrate Aeon's 5th Anniversary.
