Talk Like a Pirate Day!

Avast me hearties and shiver me timbers! September 19th was Pirate Day in GFC, our annual tradition of fun on the high seas. Social Events turned Sovereign sim into Pirate Town for all to enjoy.

Pirate Town

Swashbucklers and their wenches shook their booties to the jaunty tunes. Plunderers plundered the twelve hidden pirate treasure chests for free plunder.

Shake shake shake...
... Shake your booty

After enough rum and grog, even Long John Cobrabeard joined the fun!

Too sexy for his shirt

After the dancing, everyone settled down for a good old-fashioned hanging... errm... General Meeting wherein were extolled the virtues and grandiose plans of various divisions.

All in all it was a fun day. Big thanks to everyone that had fun with us. See you all next year! :-)

Free Gift at next GM

It seems that something as afoot or should we say apaw as the GFC has gone all easterly. Not only do we have an ongoing Egg hunt but now the GM room has been decorated with balloons and bunnies to get into the festive  feel of the celebration.

Social Events put out a message this week which read

"Everyone that attends the GM this Saturday will get a special gift from the Easter Bunny!
GM's are held at 3:00pm SLT on Saturdays in the Roddenberry Centre."

General Meeting at Autumn park

This week the general meeting was transferred from its usual location at the Roddenberry hall to a specially made area in the autumn park scene.

Benches were laid down for people to sit on and depending where you sat  the bench featured a cool animation of you sitting with a laptop balanced on your knee.  As it was an autumn scene with a Halloween flavour pumpkins and scarecrows where placed around the location.

The usual chair & co-chair seats were replaced by replicas of captain kirks chair from the original series, the co-chair got to sit in a version of captain pikes chair. What most people didn't know was if you pressed a button at the back of the pike chair it would turn on the yes & no lights as seen in the series.

It was once again a fun scene set up by social events & engineering and a nice change of location for doing the general meeting.

Pirate day and General Meeting

Talk like a pirate day was a lot of fun for those who were able to attended, throughout the day there was dancing, music and people chatting like a pirate. The set put together by MJ Mathy was fantastic, it sported a desert island, erupting volcano and a pirate ship.

The set was used again for the General Meeting with the addition of boxes and barrels to sit on, a gallow was erected for those doing their reports, a few even got hanged at the end of them.

As pirates would say Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

New Strategic Operation Lead Sentenced

New Strategic Operations Lead - Phedre Aonifall
The normal way to introduce a new lead would be maybe to send a message out in the chat group or announce it in a Senior officers meeting (SOM) and maybe during the general meeting. For a bit of fun this weekend when Phedre was to be announced the position of Strategic Operations Lead we thought we'd do something different.

As everyone sat down waiting for the General meeting to start a message was sent in the security channel to escort Mrs out of the building and to wait outside. Unfortunately, Phedre is a member of security so heard the message, the plan could have been in tatters, what do you do, cry, scream, throw prims around....nah, just say sod it and carry on regardless.

So Phedre stood outside accompanied by 2 security officers....

Phedre Under  Security Guard
When she was marched in, a mini questioning began, she was asked if she was guilty of applying for the Strat Ops lead position, she testified to her guilt, she was question on whether she would be guilty of helping to create exciting rping events, she affirmed her guilt of trying to do so, with this questioning over she was sentenced for an indefinite time of hard labour as lead of strat ops, to slave away helping and encouraging RP's in the fleet.

Sentence will commence....NOW

Impromptu Debate

There I was in the research office with Richardjrn Weatherwax working on a project when I got a IM message from Kaleaon asking if he could have a word in the sandbox. So I made my way down there to see what he wanted to talk about, what I found was quite interesting.

He had a ship rezzed and inside there was a table with a handful of members sitting around debating about general things to do with the sim and group. The fact that  an enlisted member had got an impromptu meeting going like this is something I believe should be applauded. By the end of it no one can say that senior members of the group didn't get a chance to listen to what was being said, there were 2 Commodores, 1 Rear Admiral and a Fleet Admiral there and some interesting ideas were brought up in the discussion.

Hopefully we did assist in answering some of the questions and helping to put people in the right direction, other questions made take a bit more time to work out, but does prove that people can get around a table and pass ideas, concerns and solutions generally in a peaceful manner and it felt more of a conversation where members where at the same level when it came to the direction of the conversation, if anything the senior officers were more or less answering questions based on experience in the group and giving reasons why something may or may not work due to that experience.

I felt this  made for a better debate and maybe something which could be looked at, where a debate, discussion, whatever you may want to call it is based on what non senior members see and feel and working towards how to improve their experience.

Like in any organisation, keeping people happy and busy is always the key and the first way of doing that is always to listen and if possible facilitate. If something is possible then as Picard would say "let's make it so".

General Meeting in the Sand?

Nothing is beyond Admiral Cobramax Mechanique!

The strangest sight! I swear that I saw a congregation of Galaxy Fleet crew members having a meeting in Aeon sandbox today. Was it just coincidence that this event coincided with the Aeon 5 Year anniversary celebrations or was this a deliberate attempt at creating a sentimental atmosphere.

Well, you heard it here first folks! Admiral Cobramax Mechanique did indeed have the General Meeting in the corner of Aeon Sandbox today! If you find it difficult to comprhend the meaning of this then allow me to explain. Being the meeting that brings the members of Galaxy Fleet Command together at a community event it only seems fitting that after 5 years it should take place at the exact location of the 'Party'.

Of course there have been many other 'differences' in Aeon these past few days including the MRU (Mobile Research Unit) that has been open to all smack bang in the centre of the Sandbox. Usually it's floating some 3000 ft in the air but for the weekend, research have grounded they're creation and have created an exhibition out of it.

The General Meeting was very much like the usual meeting with the exception of the snazzy Admiral's Desk and comfy seats. I was nearly about to suggest we all sit on the sand because it would have been much more civilised than the contraption we ended up perching ourselves on.

Well, nothing explains Galaxy Fleet Command better than this story eh?

Expect the Unexpected!

Something's wrong...?

The GFC General Meeting. Every saturday - except the last saturday of the month - the GFC membership gathers to listen to the reports being read out. Quite interesting indeed, since a lot of fascinating information is being said there.

However, something caught my eye when I was sitting in the auditorium. There were a couple of people, and the hall wasn't crowded, but still, numerous seats were occupied. Thus my surprise was great when I compared the pictures I took... Well, have a look. Does something strike you as odd?

You might have noticed... why am I sitting alone? Everyone else has multiple persons sitting around them, even Snapper, even though he wears the same labcoat all the time! So why is nobody sitting with me? Personally, I have no idea. I don't smell, do I? Oh no, I do, don't I? I swear, I showered this morning, so it can't be that! But then what?

Wait a second... people often avoid sick people. Is that it? Do I have some illness that I don't know about? Am I going to die? If so, please let it be a death that I haven't had before. I would like to add it to a new 'the deaths of RoBobby McMillan' exhibition later on.

Nah, that can't be it either, can it? Hmmm... what could it be! Do any of you have any idea?
