GFC Winter Bi-Annual Ball 2014/15

=== DATA LINK ESTABLISHED ===

Comman....I mean, Captain Sophie Johnson reporting. "Captain" is a rank I'm never going to get used to. You find yourself standing up at the podium, presenting your acceptance speech and the awards and promotions don't quite sink in straight away.

A lot of time and effort was put into this year's Winter Bi-Annual Ball. You had people from across the fleet providing assistance wherever they could - a joint effort of talent to create a masterpiece that everyone could be proud of. After all, the masterpiece represents all the hard work that each individual puts in every day; that's why the Bi-Annual Ball is such a fantastic event to be at.

Although, you can't forget the men and women behind the scenes of the event - making sure it runs smoothly. Without their cooperation and attention, the Ball wouldn't have been a big of a success as it was. The doors opened at 1pm SLT, with the ball starting promptly at 2pm.
Pre-Dance Event organized by Social Events!

Admiral Snapper Desade and the Social Events team put together a big pre-Ball Dance event in the Galaxy Plaza outside the Roddenberry at 10am SLT. Anyone and everyone could come along, grab their dancing shoes; a partner and dance away until the main event. Over the coming hours, members and guests flooded into the Plaza in their attire and relaxed with friends and colleagues until it was time to step up.

As you stepped through off the turbolift inside the Roddenberry, a chime could be heard from the doors at the end of the corridor as you approached them. As they chime open, you become exposed to a mixture of excitement and nervousness. A fantastic ball scene - built by the miracle workers in Engineering - based around the theme the people voted for: Orions!
Orions sweep the room!
RoBo....I mean, Terzon and his "groupies" announced the start of the main event. In an attempt to take control of the Ajax, Terzon offered to give Vice-Fleet Admiral Mechanique a dance in honor of the friendly relationship between the Syndicate and the Federation. Unable to resist the luxurious women before him, he provided the Orions with access to his ship.....or did he? Allowing the Orions time to believe they have control of the flagship, the Vice-Fleet Admiral turned the tables by pointing the ships weapons at this very location - backed into a corner, the Orion women questioned the Vice-Fleet Admiral about the situation. He revealed that Terzon contacted Starfleet about the active Syndicate cell on the planet and that it had already been taken care of.

An amazing roleplay to kickstart what would be a great event for all!

Special Thanks to:
Cobramax Mechanique who played himself
RoBobby McMillan who played Terzon and creator of the storyline
Langy Moorlord who played the Admiral's entourage (last-minute!)
Debbydo who played Mendora
T'Lara Ek'Tal (melodyparis) who played Variel
LKG01A Duke who played Sterova

As the roleplay finished, each participant joined the rest of the attendees at tables built and provided by Merky (richmerk). The scene itself reminiscent of the typical Orion scenes seen around the Star Trek TV franchises seen broadcast. An excellent replica built by Merky and his Engineering gnomes! A big thank you must go out to them for their hard-work so that the Ball could take place!

Fleet Admiral Katrina Bixby and Vice-Fleet Admiral Cobramax Mechanique took their places at the head of the room, people were called up in alphabetical order in groups of ten at a time to accept their awards and/or promotions and present their speeches.
Officers bow down in front of the Admiralty as they prepare to give their speeches!
Over the passing hours, many brilliant officers gave their inspiring speeches to the rest of the audience. Words that were spoken were ones of solitude and meaning - heartfelt words that officers of the fleet understood and reciprocated. The Bi-Annual Ball is an emotional time for the officers of the fleet, rewarded for their hard work and exceptional effort over the previous six month and the day comes when they're allowed to kick back and enjoy themselves.

After the awards and promotions were collected, everyone gathered outside for a sublime fireworks show put together by newly promoted Admiral TimoL McMillan! Now is was time for the dancing and celebratory drinking to commence!
Fantastic fireworks display by TimoL McMillan to send the dancing away!

General Meeting at Autumn park

This week the general meeting was transferred from its usual location at the Roddenberry hall to a specially made area in the autumn park scene.

Benches were laid down for people to sit on and depending where you sat  the bench featured a cool animation of you sitting with a laptop balanced on your knee.  As it was an autumn scene with a Halloween flavour pumpkins and scarecrows where placed around the location.

The usual chair & co-chair seats were replaced by replicas of captain kirks chair from the original series, the co-chair got to sit in a version of captain pikes chair. What most people didn't know was if you pressed a button at the back of the pike chair it would turn on the yes & no lights as seen in the series.

It was once again a fun scene set up by social events & engineering and a nice change of location for doing the general meeting.

Autumn Park

As the bitter chill of autumn breezes around us engineering & social events division has erected a sim width autumn scene to relax in. You can walk around the park, stand on the bridge, cuddle up with a loved one on a park bench or visit the ball room with a partner and have a spin on the dance floor.

New Gryphon/Firebird Spotted - Out of a window

So there they were, just sitting in Phoenix stations bar blissfully unaware of the new ship being test flown for the first time. I would say it was flown publically but I doubt the alcohol fuelled customers noticed the acrobatic display outside the bar window. If it wasn't for the stations security camera it may not have been spotted at all.
But grainy UFO type pictures aren't enough, we need more, so with some digging, bribing and a camera in hand, some more juicy shots have appeared of the cockpit design, with rumours of an artificial horizon meter being added to it, more news as we get it.

New GFC Gryphon/Firebird Teaser Poster Unveiled

A teaser poster for the latest GFC ship has just been unveiled by Engineering and Research division, fully made in mesh with a cockpit to die for....which you may do if you get shot down. More details of the ship, how its made and what it can do will be available at a later date, but for now lets just drool at the pictures....I'm already putting granny up for sale for one.

Of course like other products in the group this should be available for members depending on whatever task they will be required to get one.

New update to a GFC classic ship on the horizon

The gryphon has been one of the most used ships in the history of the GFC, certainly its the most updated boasting an array of features, like hyperspeed, jump drive, recolouring, towing crates, mouse look and standard 3rd person flight modes. Also working with PCS and specially made JCS combat systems.

For sometime there has been talk about not just updating the scripts but also the shell, well that time is close to arrival. Early work has started on the new mesh build with the engineering team of Wolferein Foxdale and Beth (isilmeriel resident) firing up their 3d software attempting to produce what could  be the coolest GFC ship to date.

Watch this space for more details and below check out the 3d view of a very early mesh model (which has been updated since).

Elephant in GFC!

12.30 PM SLT:
All hands, this is Captain McMillan. I have an important announcement to make. Unfortunately a mutant Roman elephant has escaped custody: we were holding it for an exhibition, but it broke out of its cage. We are doing whatever we can to capture it: even dressing up like Romans to win its trust. It's important that you all remain calm. I'll keep you informed of the situation as time progresses.

12.35 PM SLT:
This is Captain McMillan again. The mutant Roman elephant has been spotted at the Sandbox. Just act normal, as if it's not there. We hope the elephant will think he'll loose interest then, and simply move away.

Inside the sandbox...
12.37 PM SLT:
This is one strong elephant. Latest reports place the elephant *inside* the Engineering building, wrecking it from the inside out. Don't worry, we feel we're close to catching the animal. We'll be luring him onto the frozen water. With any luck, it won't be able to hold its weight.

Breaking through the walls of the Engineering building...
12.43 PM SLT:
Unfortunately, the ice is thicker than anticipated. The elephant didn't sink. We managed to steer the creature towards the shuttle parkingplace though...

The ice is too strong!

Parking place...

12.53 PM SLT:
Perhaps it was a mistake to tell the elephant that in order to stay there, it would need to pay rent. Sorry Admiral, just trying to get some more income... didn't seem to work out. The elephant is now spotted *inside* the Library. Perhaps it just wants to look at the exhibitions? Unfortunately, by doing so, it severely damaged the building! I mean, just look at it!

Inside the Library...
12.57 PM SLT:
Members of GFC, I am pleased to report that the situation has been resolved. We managed to capture the mutant Roman elephant by driving it into a tree. Sadly, all of this hasn't been without consequences: there are elephant-sized holes in the Library and the Engineering building. If anyone has any elephant sized plates to put against those holes to keep out the cold, please... let me know!

Stopped!
This was Captain RoBobby McMillan, bringing you the latest in the elephant crisis! Until next time!
