A Scifi Christmas!

On the lookout for Christmas cheer as I travel the cyber-spacelanes of Second Life, I spot a cozy, warm winter chalet nestled beneath the shoulders of snowy mountains.

Outside is a friendly snowman, who directs me inside and bids me look under the Christmas tree. Everything is gaily decorated, the Christmas feast is on the table, and the stocking are hung by the chimney with care.

And Santa had been here!

There is a wonderful present for each day of the month of December so far, with the best surely still to come in the last days leading up to Christmas Eve itself.

All this good cheer is in support of the 9th Annual Second Life Science Fiction Convention, so a million thanks go to the good people that make that happen, as well as to those that allowed us the use of their sim for the giant Con map and our little Christmas scene this year.

The joy of Christmas reaches even the farthest corners of the galaxy.  For example, the sim of Star Trek: Recondition, where I just happened to find myself today.  Santa's magic has transformed the landscape into the North Pole.

Step inside the welcoming lodge and warm yourself by the friendly fireplace.

Don't forget to find your present under the big Christmas tree!

I'm going to settle down in one of the comfy chairs by the fire and drink some eggnog and wait for Santa.

White Christmas

So here I was, back at the GFC. I decided to ride the GFC Monorail today and glanced casually out the side window and my eyes beheld a wondrous sight! Snow! The entire lake had frozen -- winter was finally here!

Even as I watched, the Space Elves were decking the halls and jingling each other's bells.

Frosty snowmen greet anyone with the Christmas spirit with a jolly, coalish smile.  Is that a carrot or are you just happy to see me?  :)

I perk up my ears and hear round-the-clock Christmas carols playing on the land stream.  I walk deeper into the scene and see a magical skating pond with free skates laid out for anyone to take. There are places to sit by a roaring fire with your friends, and couples seats in a snow-covered gazebo lit by a thousand Christmas stars.  Dance with a special someone. Make a snow angel. Build a snowman. Watch the Christmas Elves on the ice. Catch a glimpse of the reindeer through the white pines.

Take the time to visit Social Events's Winter Wonderland.  Bring a special friend for a merry ol' time.

Xmas at the sovereign lodge

Over the Christmas period many spend time in Sovereigns winter lodge where they chatted over dinner, picking up the daily free gifts and generally relaxing around the warm fire place.

There was a skype room set up for live voice chatting throughout christmas eve and day to celebrate Yuletide  which many joined into including fleet admiral bixby.

We'd like to thank social events for making it a great place to hangout over the Christmas period.

Free Xmas gifts second week

For the last week in the GFC  free gifts have been given away at the winter wonder land lodge on the grounds of sovereign.

Every day a new gift has been place under the christmas tree and will continue up until xmas day. Only so many presents will be under the tree at anyone time, each prize will be removed after a couple of days so remember to come down regularly to pick up your free goody while its still under there.

The gifts which have been given away so far are as followed.

Christmas is a season for giving, and GalaxyFleetCommand is giving away presents!

Come visit the GFC Winter Wonderland, find the Christmas tree inside the big lodge, and pick up your gift. We'll try to have something different every day until Christmas. Don't like what you got today? Come back tomorrow! Then stay a while, enjoy the setting, relax by the fire, pet the reindeer, build a snowman, dance with a loved one.

Remember older presents will be removed every few days, so get them when they are available or you'll miss out.

If any of you watch the series Game Of Throne then you'll know the term "WINTER IS COMING" and its no different here at the GFC. Expect to see snowmen, reindeer's and Santa, not to mention lots and lots of snow.

Santa Earlier This Week

Santa has been very good to us in the GFC over the last few weeks as he's happily been manning the Winter Scene in the stations holodeck. But as its Christmas he has a job to do getting all those presents dropped off so he left us a note to say he was going to be away.

As compensation a sled has been left where people can sit in for a ride around the Christmas tree.

Christmas Party

The holidays have arrived! You would think that all members of GFC are taking it easy, resting in the sandbox after working very hard. But no... there are always those who push on. Take Cadet Monkeyman Firethorn for instance. Not only had he taken most of the Officer Training School classes in record time, he also requested an impromptu OTS Final Class on Christmas Eve!

So, I gave it to him. Spirit of Christmas, and all. His task: to organise a Christmas Party in the Fifth Pip. He only had a little over an hour...

Monkeyman did a great job!

And he pulled it off! Many people came to help, and under Monkeyman's leadership, a great party was started. When he left, we continued until the late hours... well, late for me, that was. But it was worth it! Great party indeed.
