Saint Patrick's Day weekend roles again

Its becoming a yearly event at the GFC to come down to the fairhaven set and celebrate ST. Patricks day with dancing at the bar. Social Events have also placed free green fleet uniforms to wear courtesy of Mollsen's design, the revelry once again is held at the Roddenberry Centre between march 14-17.

Memorial to Venya Salome

When the time comes to write about the full history of GalaxyFleetCommand one of the early contributors who will appear on the first few pages would be Venya Salome.

Recently we heard the sad news the Venya had passed away and a memorial service was planned on Saturday where both Admiral Cobramax Mechanique and Fleet Admiral bixby said a few words in her honour in front of a crowd of members and friends who turned up to give their respects.

Venya was sent off in classic GFC style by having a capsule propelled into the far reaches of space, It is also said something similar was done in Eve Online where she was a member. She received a posthumous promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Junior grade which everyone thought was heartily deserved. To top the ceremony off a firework display  lit up the skies and live audio played across the land stream with admiral bixby and Mechanique talking with other members about venya, her work and early days in the GFC to an appreciative listening audience.

Venya was what you could call an early maverick builder in secondlife when the virtual world was still fresh from its bubble wrap. Back in 2005 she was one of those who worked on the original Galaxy sim which was the first full plot of land the GFC owned.

She then and probably more notably  worked on the second GFC purchased sim called Aeon where she build the rental homes, the roads which linked them and worked on the bridge which connected the far north part of the sim, it was one if its most famous landmark features.

She also created the archer tower which was one of the largest built ground structures ever made in the GFC.

When you look a back at the early influences which helped shape this group for over 7 years, her skill, talent and imagination has touched the GFC profoundly, her work is fondly remembered and paved the way for where we are now in GalaxyFleetCommand and for that we will be forever grateful.

Bi-Annual Summer Ball 2013

It doesn't feel that long ago we were at the roddenberry centre in the engineering set  for the warp to the future Bi-Annual ball in January, but here we are again in the GFC's semiannual promotion and awards Ceremony.

This years theme was based around wormholes in the Past, Present and Future. Richmerk Resident and Wolfie had worked in secret on the set so it was a surprise to people when they first saw it.

When you first arrived at the roddenberry centre you were welcome to a replica of the guardian portal scene from the Star Trek Original Series episode "City on the Edge of Forever". In the portal, pictures of the GFC past were displayed. Upon clicking the portal you were teleported to the hall venue which was a room inside a swirling wormhole.

It gave a wonderfully convincing effect of being inside a rotating wormhole. Once teleported you'd find yourself on the dance floor which had a bar to the right of it. Further along where the seats and tables for members and guest to sit at to watch the proceedings and screens at either side of the rooms showed old images from GFC past in a slideshow.

The event fired off with Admiral Cobramax Mechanique welcoming people to the proceedings and we went straight into a quiz full of trek related questions which once again Sereana Westland won like last ball. Clearly, attempts to tie down her typing finger failed :)

Once the Quiz was completed and scores counted and displayed, it was time for the regular ball message by Fleet Admiral Katrina Bixby & Admiral Cobramax Mechanique  to be played over the radio stream.

After we had heard the Bi-Annual ball message it was down to the meat and veg of the proceedings, the award and promotion ceremony. Like last event and unlike previous ones members were called up in alphabetical order in groups no more than 10 at a time.

At ease stands were laid out by the side of the podium where they would wait until it was their turn to step up and deliver their speeches of thanks.

This ball around 65 members were awarded for their activities in the group, though not all could make the event many had the pleasure of standing up and thanking those who voted for them and how they felt about being in the group. Some speeches express what the group meant to them and in some instances how it help them to get through difficult problems.

The speeches and awards were the longest part of the ceremony and once over people could stretch their legs a little by walking outside the roddenberry centre and watching the fireworks Timol had laid on for us.

With the fireworks over it was back inside to the dancefloor to boogie the rest of the night away, chat about members new ranks and awards plus looking forward to another 6 months in the fleet.

Warming up for St. Patrick's Day

Crackling noises could be heard from the subspace transceiver as a gargled message was being sent.

The comms officer ran the message through a filter, boosted the gain and got something which at least sounded legible.

BlackRosePhantom Boogie In Two Versions

You know how it is, the party has ended, all the guests are gone and you just want to keep dancing like the Duracell bunny. So you can imagine Richardjrn Weatherwax and Debbydo's surprise when they walked into the Roddenberry centre to find BlackRosePhantom dancing with himself.

As much as he tried to deny it the evidence is irrevertible, videos don't lie :)

So, another 6 months has passed and my word hasn't it been a long 6 months. Mobile Research Units, Playing in the Grass, Being Kidnapped on Al Raqis - the Last 6 months have given us a lot of enjoyment and this Ball in my eyes just gives us hope that this fun will continue.

snapper Desade Gets his Commendation award!

Personally this is my First Bi-Annual Ball, and because of some rule I couldn't get promoted - though had the rule not been there I'm sure I would have *laughs*. But anyway, I recieved the Starfleet Commendation Award and the Legion of Merit Award.

What does this mean to me?

Well, It tells me that I have been recognised in GFC for my work, It also tells me that people appreciate my work and that comes very warmly to me.

A Personal Thank you to snapper Desade and Phedre Aionfall who recommended me for these awards.

Anyway ... moving on.

Another awesome part of the Ball was the Strategic Operations/OPFOR Roleplay. Admiral Mechanique was abducted by the Orions from Al Raqis. It was all very tense and scary! I made a quick judgement and called the U.S.S Paris for them to send fighters to intercept the fleeing Orion craft that had the Admiral tucked away on board. Unfortunately they failed and the fighters were destroyed ... The Admiral is still missing. We think we has taken to Al Raqis, DS19 has been informed and their crew sent to locate him.
