Bi-Annual Summer Ball 2014 - Klingon

The time of awards and promotions have come round once again and on Saturday 12th July 2014 there most important thing wasn't some World Cup 3rd - 4th place match but our Bi annual award ceremony where members were honoured for their contributions to secondlife's GalaxyFleetCommand sci-fi trek inspired group.

The ball is held twice a year and highlights members accomplishments through a variety of award and ranked promotions.

The theme for this summers ball was klingon, to publicise the event in world Jd Matova from the communications division supplied an advertising display unit and Jen Johnson (Jailan Resident) built and scripted an countdown board which showed how long in days, minutes and second before the ball, what was really cool was the feature that not only showed the presented this in english but every few second displayed the countdown in klingon.

social events division set about organising the event, Richmerk Resident and his team of ..... created an elaborate klingon set with huge statues, red carpets and klingon inspired furniture for seating and stage. The senior fleet admirals Katrina Bixby and Cobramax Mechanique had chairs placed at each side of the raised stage where they could oversee the crowd below. In the middle of the stage was podium for announcements and speeches, either side stands for those who were coming up to receive their awards to wait for their names to be called.

The event started with snapper desade standing at the podium welcoming members to the ball in full klingon regalia. Over the land audio stream a recording made by cobra and Katrina played where they talked about the klingon race, the recording can be heard below

Once the recording was finished the giant doors of the ceremony room burst open and little rp story played out in true klingon style full of intrigue, threats, love and waving of bat'leth, the script of the rp can be read here -->

Once the rp had finished the backwall of the stage rose up and reviewed debbydo and richmerk performed a special Klingon dance, one of which you've never seen the likes of and would have made General Martol cry into his bloodwine declaring that the klingon dancing like ballerinas was enough reason to challenge all concerned to a dual with the sharpest weapon in the house.

The wall came back down and Admiral Cobramax Mechanique stood at the stage podium and called out the names of those who receiving awards and promotions to come up in alphabetical order in groups of about 10 at a time to say a few words and thank people for the recognition. Around 60 members were recognised for the activities in the group and at its peak there were 52 people present at the event.

As the last person stepped down to receive their recognition,  roleplay mission commander (those who run rps in the group) came on the stage one at a time to recognise those people who had attended the many rps which are held at the GFC over the last 6 months.

Cobramax close the ball by thanking the members and as with tradition attendees spend the next few hows dancing the night away.

It has to be  one of the most memorable balls ever, from the gorgeous set, rp and klingon dance. Congratulations for those who contributed to the creation of the event, those who attending and those who won awards and promotion.

4 Day Klingon Bat'leth Tournaments

From August 1st - 4th it will be time to put down the phaser gun and fight on the most honorable battle field this side of Qo'noS for the Klingon Bat'leth tournament, a variety of events are planned for the next few days.

Get into your warriors attire and prepared to face the sharp blade of  a true champions weapon, list of events are below, they are subject to change so keep an eye out for group messages, calendar and events updates. The info below is a live document so can change slightly at any time so refresh to keep up with the latest information.

USS Legend RP Launches into Space

Its been a busy few weeks with the Klingon and TOS rps launching and now a new roundabout has been added into the mix. The USS Legend officially went into service and was introduce in a new RP timeslot.

We all know we can't trust the romulans so starfleet and the klingons have created a fragile alliance to keep and eye of the more violent descendants of the vulcan race. Out in a listening post the federation and klingon empire have been monitoring any traffic from them, but with little effect until a ship stealthily lands and informs the listening post that orders have been sent to see what the Romulans are doing at close quarters.

Inside the Federation & Klingon outpost, Admiral Cobramax Mechanique gives a guest appearance.

The outpost crew are alarmed to find all they have is a danube based runabout to use on the mission as some regard it as suicide, even the klingon contingent don't think this ship will be a good day to die in, but orders are orders, if for the federation or the empire.

Both factions boarded their home for their new mission and ventured into romulan space.

Cliffords Memorial

A year ago resident GFC member Dustin Sunflower's real life dog Clifford died and to commemorate the occasion regular klingons and starfleet members took a ship to the Planet of the Damned in the Azathoth Nebula where the Klingon Empire has a stronghold.

On one of their ships the Memorial for Clifford was held, starfleet was able to obtain logs from what seems a break from Klingon tradition and under the universal freedom if interplanetary speech is being release for all races to witness.

RPing The Klingon Way

One of the favorite races in star treks are the klingons, where else can you be abusive to your fellow crew members without being thrown in the brig.

On sundays at 4pm SLT (PDT) the good ship IKS LaQ from the Klingon Empire scouts the galaxy bringing their own brand of adventure to the universe. Be prepared for Battles, snarling, name calling, Bloodwine drinking, Betleth wielding RPing.

A new bridge set has been created for this RP made my Langy Moorland.

New Library Lead and Klingon RP

Its been a good week for our regular klingon Kendra Mollsen (Koreeah Resident).

At the weekend she was sworn in as the new GFC Library lead position and starting her new Klingon RP on Sundays.

A message was send through the empire to rapturous applause, out of tune battles songs and enough blood wine to down a zoo full of Targs.

The IKS LaQ is a War an Scout ship for the Klingon Empire. the crew of the IKS LaQ are bold an strong warriors hand picked from the empire to seek out , conquer , scout new planets an territories and return with honor.

In the late hours of duty, DS19 picked up an unknown ship entering from the wormhole; the ship was of unknown configuration and promptly attacked DS19, knocking shields down to 50% with one swift torpedo. The normally silent shift then rushed to attention as the station began to suffer further damage. The ship began to  encircle the station, picking off a Bajoran trade vessel as it attempted to escape from danger.

To the shock and horror of the DS19 Ops. crew, another ship entered through the wormhole. The Klingon battle-cruiser claimed that the unknown ship was property of the klingon Empire; the unknown vessel, upon discovering that its master was close by, chose to hide among the wreckage of the destroyed Bajoran trade vessel. DS19 ceased the moment of advantage and fired a high volley of torpedoes with intent to destroy the propulsion system of the ship - with success.

The Klingon Captain transported on-board, and further added to the mystery - this Klingon was not part of the Empire!

The Klingon ambassador stationed in the embassy on the lower decks of DS19 demanded an audience with the rogue Klingon; who disappeared into the embassy, and despite several screams, was never heard again.

Say to say, Starfleet partied hard after surviving...

Klingon Art

Klingons are known for many things, fighting to the death, a taste in food like gagh which would turn the stomach of a t-rex and a strange admiration for shakespeare. What we don't see much of is Klingon art, well that may change somewhat as one of the GFC's resident Klingons Yaz (Batlhtlhutlh Resident) has taken to canvas with her Andy Warhol style take on capturing SL life.

GFC's First Klingon Bat'leth Duel Tactical Event

Good day!

Last Friday we had our first Bat'leth Duel as a Tactical Event. It was pretty cool. Here is a brief report:

We rezzed the Klingon Circle of Blood near the Tactical Area, in Sovereign. People gathered around and I started giving a few instructions. Many brave warriors showed up: Sodak, Debbydo, Reece, Dustin, Joshua Humbridge, Nick Banana, Roy Lang, Talax, MissKitty (special envoy from UFG), Malic Skytower, Malcolm, Lillian Aries (to tend the wounded), Jimmy Vehrous and please forgive me if I forgot someone.

Everybody received a scripted Bat'leth (model built by Angel Sacherfort) and a copy of the free Sci-Fi Combat System HUD, along with instructions.

A little bit of history and information on the Bat'leth:

lt is our traditional "Sword of Honor". About a meter long and shaped as a double-semicircle with four points, resembling a two-ended scimitar.  A modern bat'leth is typically 116 centimeters long and weighs 5.3 kilograms, and is composed of baakonite metal.

The Bat'leth is carried along the inside of the arm and wielded using two handholds on the outside edge of the weapon.

Our oral traditions state that the first Bat'leth was forged around 625 A.D. (Terran equivalent) by Kahless the Unforgettable.

The legend says Kahless dropped a lock of his hair into the lava from the Kri'stak Volcano, and then plunged the fiery lock into the lake of Lursor and twisted it to form a blade. But only our priests know the details to this legend.

Hence, the first Bat'leth was known as the Sword of Kahless. It was a sacred icon for the Klingon people until it was stolen about 1000 years ago by the invading Hur'q. In 2372 of Terran common era, then-ambassador Kor set off with General Worf and Jadzia Dax, a Starfleet Officer regarded as a Klingon warrior, to the Gamma Quadrant to search for the legendary artifact, but came back empty-handed, according to the official records.

Although nowadays wars are won by ships, disruptors and photon torpedos, the Bat'leth remain a sacred weapon to us, and it is deadly in the hands of a skilled Klingon warrior.

It is used mainly during ritual combats, such as when a leader is challenged, a warrior wishes to prove his valor against another, a House dispute needs to be settled or someone evokes the right to Vengeance, so we all must know how to defend ourselves using a Sword of Honor. Also, a Klingon is invincible with a Bat'leth in melee combat, so this formidable weapon never lost its use among us.
The Bat'leth must be earned through blood and valor, and it is to be treated with the utmost respect. Nothing brings more honor to a father than to be able to pass his Bat'leth to his son, and there is no greater honor for a son than to receive his father's Bat'leth. They remain in our families and Houses as a symbol of their strenght. Much like the D'k tahg, except the dagger reprents more a warrior's personal honor, while the Bat'leth has deep ties with his House.

Worf, Son of Mogh, owns a Bat'leth that has been in his family for 10 generations, which he used to kill Duras after the nemesis had murdered K'Ehleyr, the mother of Worf's son.

The championship followed an eliminatory system, with some resits. We had a big board with the pictures of the challengers to each match. The first matches were randomly chosen. The first battle was between Malic Skytower and Nick Banana. Here's how it went:

The next fight was memorable and epic: Ms. Reece against MissKitty. Real bloody and messy girl on girl action. Suddenly the audience increased tenfold. Here is how it went:

As you will see, MissKitty fought like a true warrior and was a big favorite in the championship. Next Mr. Dustin fought Mr. Malic again, who got another chance to prove his valor:

So we moved to the 2nd phase of the eliminatories. We had already ruled out many warriors. Next match was between Mr. Joshua, The Andorian Rage, and Nick, The Banana, who got a second chance:

As you can see, MissKitty was really on a killing rampage. There was no way Mr. Banana could win, no matter how hard he tried. Next we had Mr. Joshua, The Andorian Fury, against Mr. Dustin, The Fiery Wrath, who had just metamorphosed to his deadly dragon form:

Next both Mr. Sodak and Mr. Nick Banana got resits. It was quick though. Mr. Sodak showed his true Vulcan strenght. Here is how it went:

Poor Nick Banana, it wasn't his day. Mr. Sodak would fight again to decide who would fight for the Trophy, but he had to go. So, as in Klingon Tradition, Mr. Dustin was appointed to fight on his behalf, which he did honorably. He stepped once again into the circle against the formidable MissKitty. That was a very intense and dramatic fight, they were both favorites and skilled warriors. It went like this:

And that was it. Then we celebrated and took many pictures. Mr. Joshua got a champion Trophy and Mr. Dustin got a Vice Champion Trophy. They are both valorous warriors. Next week Mr. Joshua will have to defend his title, for we should have another Klingon Bat'leth Duel!

To Boldly Eat at the Klingon Kafe

Kaori here with a culinary adventure! I wandered on the promenade, like I usually do when I wake up with a hangover. Crabby and hungry. So what better pick-me-up then a nice hearty breakfast to start your shift on Prospero station. This morning I think I'll go for something different then my usual Bisquits and Raktijino. The Klingon Kafe. With an extensive menu and very well supplied. Then again, I doubt the Klingons have much trouble with supply routes being raded by Ferengi or Orion Mauraders.

Slightly dissapointed as I was hoping to see a Klingon in apron and chef's hat. That would have kick started my mood with a giggle. With an uninviting demeanor I am glared back at with a mocking "I dare you to order" look. A bit intimidated I ask, "Any recommendations?" and am answered with a outstretched arm and a pointing finger at the menu at the wall.

All I knew about was the famed Gagh and was surprised that there are 51 selections of Gagh alone.I decide to have a cup of Bahgol tea with a small portion of Torgud gagh, which was described as having a distinct wiggle, and a side order of Gladst with a bit of Grapok Sauce.

As I cringe at the squiggly wigglies, the chef smirks and tells me, "It is an Acquired taste. " So I shrug and dig in! During the second wretch as I try to put the bowl back onto the counter the proprietor looks back with looks that kill. That term has a completely different definition coming from a Klingon armed with cleaving knives. So I finish the meal with great effort.

"It's an experience I recommend for those of a brave heart".

Our gagh is a Klingon delicacy consisting of unprocessed serpent worms cleansed and spiced to perfection.

Choose from many of the succulent live and squirming types or order them stewed, for the more sensitive belly (at an extra cost).

It has been said that the actual taste of gagh is revolting and it is eaten solely for the unique sensation of the gagh spasming in one's mouth and stomach in their death throes. There are at least 51 different types of gagh, each with its distinct taste and texture, including:

* Bithool gagh, which has feet 50 slips gpl

* Filden gagh, which squirms 60 slips gpl

* Meshta gagh, which jumps 55 slips gpl

* Torgud gagh, which wiggles 60 slips gpl

Despite my aching belly.... I did feel honorable surviving the meal.

So.. If you're ever on DS19 Prospero station, have a peek at the menu and sample some Klingon delicacy! It is anything BUT delicate. A meal with a hard kick and punch. Qua'plah!
