GFC at Relay for Life - Float Parade

It has been a recent tradition for the GFC to be involved in Relay For Life in some form or other, last year we had a disco and was actually the first story written on this blog and this year the group has helped once again with the cause. In addition there has been a poetry exhibition aswell.

For the last few weeks there has been donation boxes placed strategically around DS19 and other locations, also a wall of events has been placed at the back of the ferengi bar at the space station. This years contribution was to join forces with the UFS.  Both groups took part by sitting on a float which made a lap of the square in one of the two sims events were taking place in. Other than a small fairground we got our flags out as the two trek groups came together and circled the sim on a float,  which also had  two smaller ships attached to it. Some stood on the float, while others perched on the edge. There was even space to park your avatar on one of the two choices of ships which was attached to the float, being it either  a version of the Enterprise or Defiant.

As with many events the numbers in the sim were high at times, hovering between 70-40 people, lag was an enemy but we all soldiered on regardless and proudly represented the fleet for this good cause.

Relay for life events will continue for the next few weeks and i'm sure its not the last time the group will helps support the charity this season.

Thaks all those members who participated Perfecto Convair,Sereana Westland, Debbydo Resident, Dustin Sunflower,  BlackRosePhantom,  Katie Zwilling and your truly.

Relay for life

Relay for life

Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society's fundraising activity (RFL) is a charity which offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people from all walks of life have fun while raising much-needed funds to fight cancer and raise awareness of cancer prevention and treatment.

The American Cancer Society's real world Relay for Life began in Tacoma, Washington in May 1985.
Dr. Gordy Klatt, a Tacoma colorectal surgeon, decided to personally raise money for his local American Cancer Society office and show support for his patients by doing something he enjoyed – running marathons.

Relay for Life in Second Life is an annual event; volunteers form or join teams to have fun while fundraising and raising awareness from mid-March through mid-July.
In 2010, Relay for Life in Second Life raised over $222,000 for the American Cancer Society.
Relay for Life has become an international movement in RL and in SL. In 2010 participants

from over 30 countries took part in Relay for Life
of Second Life.

Our party organiser Eric Silvercloud
The GFC participated by holding events round the pips and with a guest speaker for RFL talking about the good work the charity was about in the academy on Saturday night.

The RFL event was a great success with three parties Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.  All parties had a good turn out with a competition for the best dressed super hero Friday and Saturday night. Friday had four winners sharing a 300 lindens pot each getting 75 lindens. Our resident dj on Friday was dj Falo Preistman.
Saturdays party went off with a swing and music from the 80s era which brought back great memories for us oldies who were there.
